Just saw the new Honda Civic ad in our papers. Starts from A$20,990 for the manual. Slap on 17" and some bodykit and like what wkwoo would say 'NGAM'! It's just wonderful to be driving manual cars here. ekekek.... :D

I'm quite surprised no one's posted anything on the new Civic a couple of weeks following its M'sian launch. According to today's CBT, 3,600 bookings to date.

Anyway, I've checked it out too many times already. I'm quite seduced. What impresses most is the amount of interior space, particularly shoulder and rear leg room. The steering wheel adjusts for height and reach (i.e. telescopic), which must be a first for a CKD car of this level.

The double tier dash isn't a big deal, but I'm sure it sealed the deal for many prospectives. In the first few days following the launch, you could so so many many folk (yes, mostly Cina of course) just dying to put down their RM3k. Tons of parents looking to buy the car for their very lucky kids too.

We test drove the 1.8 with an enthusiastic and excellent SA, who encouraged us to drive as hard as we wanted. Redline "manual" shifts and emergency braking (to test the VSA) were the order of the day. He even encouraged us to try braking with one half on grass! Tire roar is quite evident, and the engine lacks torque (granted, there were 4 guys in the car). Its not particularly smooth too. There's a surprising amount of engine vibration felt from the passenger floor. The tyres are Goodyear NCT 5s, but then again it is a CKD.

The Kamm tail and C-pillar is quite BMW (E46), but all the better for it. Nothing new methinks. The EK sedan's rear has quite a lot of similarities with the E36's anyway.

I'd go for the 2.0, no question. HIDs, "leather", EPS, 6CD, paddle shift and more torque justifies the added expense. The 1.8 is still staggering value. Who would ever consider an obselete PV6 at slightly less now?

Its disappointing that Honda Malaysia has yet to make any post-NAP announcements, but fingers crossed that the savings, if any, would be enough for a Modulo bodkykit!

I went to check it out last week. Looking at the specs, fit and finish and overall value of the car, I think Honda Malaysia has a winner product here. According to the SA, most bookings are for the 1.8 ltr which is "only" 10k more than the outgoing Civic 1.7, with a whole lot more car. The 2.0 ltr is 14k more, but the specs are very generous. Most showrooms do not have the 2.0 ltr for test drive or even display. Specs wise, the 1.8ltr is a long stroke engine, with peak power lower down the rev range, but should have good midrange torque and pull for city driving. The 2.0 ltr's bore and stroke are equal and makes peak power closer to redline. Only complaint is the color combo (from brochures) which is dark blue leather seats for the 2.0 ltr. 1.8 gets better beige and brown combo.

Ahem....pls define half high on 'grass' or half? Half high on grass also still testdrive huh? Hahaha....you da man lah Mr Woo! :D

DD, thanks for the observation. Clearly , some statements can be easily miscontrued. We were driving it in the posher parts of Taman Desa and the SA encouraged us to layan some emergency braking with the CAR half on the road, and half on the grass.

One can test drive this sort of car 100% on grass too. Not like its an Evo or STI, heh heh.

anyone have the latest post-NAP prices for the 1.8 Civic and also the Jazz i-DSi?
went to one unnamed dealer and the salesman was acting coy and not giving up anything.maybe cuz i don't look like i can afford a honda? dunno.. :dunno:
damn..
still interested though.. :)

This is what I got from the other forum:
Honda:
City I-DSI = RM 79,800
City I-VTEC = RM 84,800
Jazz IDSI - RM 92,800
Jazz VTEC - RM 102,800
Civic 1.8 = RM 113800
Civic 2.0 = RM 124800
Accord 2.0 = RM 135800
Accord 2.4 = RM 154800

Looks good.. But I bought my Japan CBU Jazz Vtec ($101k) cheaper compared to the revised pricing. On top of that the current Jazz is CBU from Thai (ASEAN) and our ringgits is stronger now. Someone is still making quite a bit if these prices are true.

Went to the Honda Showroom opposite Tmn Midah yesterday (beside new toyota service center). The 2.0 Civic looks great, steering diameter just NGAM! ASked the SA on the waiting period..6 months! Post-NAP price not out yet.....but yeah Honda has a winner here!

thanx bro..i'm guessing this is still an unofficial figure.hoping for somemore discounts..

The posted prices should be right. I was at a dealer yesterday, and the posted prices for the Civic is correct. It seems I'm spending a lot of time at Honda dealers nowadays. I think its a foregone conclusion for me.

There was a black one there, registered, with 17 inch bronze Work Emotions (looks like Taiwan versions, I could be wrong) and really dark tint. Not lowered. Apart from the Beng blue nuts and valves, it looked NGAM!

Albundy, did you try to see how much legroom the person who sits behind you has, even when you're in your most comfortable position in front? Amazing! There's little need then for the Accord, but the new 2.4 price does look very attractive. Here's hoping the facelifted Accord will be maintained at the same level.
