After replaced the front and rear absorber since few month ago, found that the car was very high..so decided to lower the car but is it any disadvantage for me to do it for my e39?before that i am using the e36,and lower the car,the car looks very sporty, but not comfortable and too low,so every time i passed the hump, mesti kena!so for my e39,i am using the billstein absorber but it looks very high, very uncle look,so decided to lower the car,so went to mechanic and he told me that can use the existing absorber that i replaced few months ago, just replace the spring, and the rear one he suggest to use the merz spring to cut it lower, the front can use the eibach spring, his car is e39 also, doing the same way but the absorber was billstein sport absorber, just need to ask the expert here, can i just replaced the spring that i mentioned just now and use my absorber?any disadvantage?is it the car still comfortable for the driver and passenger?

If your mechanic can do it to his e39, sure yours also can

Comfort quite subjective, it is up to individual. Why don't you try to have a ride with your mechanic e39. That the closest if you intend to use the same spring set up as his suggestion.

Disadvantage, for sure the abs wouldn't last long but it is not that significant.

my 2cents

Bro, its not recommended to use lowered spring on your bilstein sport (B6). It will shorten the life on the shocks because the shocks is always compressed. (not within the normal operating range).
The bilstein sprint (B8) is meant to be use with lowered springs.
Another way would be, put in a lowered spring for now, and when your shocks due for change, then only consider the type of shocks you want.
Or....get the bilstein B12 a complete tuning kit (B8+lowered springs).

As comfort wise, its very personal.
Btw, I've just purchased the B12 kit, and will be installing it tomorrow....
will try and give you an update...
cheers

Xstatic,

how much you purchased B12 Kit? i might need it on my E39 2001 and pls update us the outcome. Thanks

never cut a spring.
You will messed up the spring rate, rebounce rate, spring travel distance, and yada yada. It will jeopardize your safety.

Best options is get a set of Eibach Prokit .. very sexy will drop your car by one inch. Comfort is there on highway however on roads around PJ you will suffer a little.

If you are getting a new tyres, go for 225 55 17 front and 245 55 17 rear ... low profile tyres will kill your comfort.

just my two cent la

I bought it for Rm 3400 from auto future in uptown....

Well, finally got it installed on sat...drove it from the workshop back home using LDP.
The car feels alot more responsive..no more dipping when hard on brakes. The car is very much planted on the road, you can feel every uneven road but yet, its not harsh!
Personally, I feel it gives me the best compromise btwn handling and comfort...Ground clearance wise, no issue with speedbumps, one utama parking...(mine still original bumper with 18 inch wheels). I definitely recommend the B12.
Just a note, you may wanna consider shorter stopbumps for your rear as the original one is slighter longer as this may cause the shocks to have shorter travel, thus, creating bottoming effect. As for the front, it comes with inbuild stopbumps, thus, you dont need to get a seperate stopbumps.
Change all the abs mounting as well, and check for signs of wear on all the control arms..as the abs are pretty stiff and it will put alot of pressure on your other suspension parts..
Just sharing my experience and hope this will help you in deciding...do update us on your ride..
Cheers...

Haa..forgot to mention the ride's height...
Front - 1 finger gap btwn tyre and fender
Rear 11/2 finger gap...(it looks awesome)
Cheers
