Dear All,My car is E46 320i and my suspension has worn off (leaking). Mind you, the car is 8 years old, so I guess its about time anyway. I need advice to as what type of suspension should I be investing in? Currently, the car is slightly lowered and is running 18 inch tires. With the suspension leaking, the car seems to be extra lowered. I am looking in retaining the same looks using these 18 rims. So I was just wondering if anyone out there can give me some good advice to as what suspension and springs should I be changing into if I am looking for a comfortable and stable ride. Cheers.

you said comfortable and stable.
Look for OEM replacement for your absorber.
Popular choices are Bilstein & Sachs.
Dont' change your spring. You dont' need to change it unless something wrong with it.
Remember to change a pair, not just one.

Thanks a lot Turbology!

Any specific model for the Bilstein or Sach models?

Most likely yours come as an M-Sport or the springs are already the lowered version (Eibach, M-Tech, etc).
If the car is an M-sport, you should look for the Sachs Performance but hey, it's gonna be tough looking for it and cost a bomb. Other choices for the M-sport is the Bilstein B6 or B8 or Konis.

If your car is the lifestyle version, get the Bilstein B4 or Boge Auto. These are for comfort settings and non-lowered.

if the car is lifestyle version, but want to change to B6, is it still ok?
wouldnt mind sacrificing the comfort level :D

How can one tell if the car is the lifestyle version?

Sorry for the duh question! :)

if the car is not lowered, definitely it's the lifestyle version. The lifestyle version TYPICALLY comes with 16" rims mostly, electric seats (non-sports version), 4 spoke steering, no bodykit.

B6 fronts usually is about RM700/ea while B6 rear is about RM250/ea. Have not checked for a while. Do include the rubber mounting, bump stops and cover while you are at it.

Thanks for the info Affan66! Its surely great help!

The price is pretty reasonable! Any suggestions where can I get my hands on the B6's!

Thanks again!

bavarian auto, inner power etc all carry bilstein. Price might have gone up since the last time I checked was about 2 years ago.

Thanks again, Affan66.

Unfortunately, I have to put this suspension on hold for at least a month. My car was whacked from behind by this arrogant Nissan Frontier on the MRR2 last Monday evening. It was raining heavily. The driver's excuse was, "Saya tertidur"!!!

Now the car is in the workshop. The damages are SMG 2 rear bumper broke, crystal rear lights both broken, bonet dented (looks like a mini pyramid), must tarik as both sides body damaged, the boot plastic covers and trimmings all have to be replaced and the plastic cover for the spare tire!! So damn sad!

Moreover, I am now recovering from a massive whiplash!

:(
