from past history i notice that after I respray the car, I would inevitably sell it after few months. So perhaps with vinyl wrap i will break the curse eh..lol

Advocates,

Would you be kind enough to state what are the advantages/benefits of vinyl wrapping the whole car? RM18k is a lot of money though so perhaps it would be good for our knowledge too.

...1 of the reason is u cannot spray the car with matt paint, u can but you cannot clean it....2nd reason is once u fed up with it u just peel it off and u get back ur ori color..

Actually RM18k is not just for detailing work, the wrap it self if done in Singapore is also abt 6k.

Herbert,

I agree with xxx. Besides, whilst you can spray the car to matte colour, it may not be perfect as dust tree sap and other pollutants may be embedded in the matte paint. Unlike the normal paint, the painter cant and should not polish the matte paint finished to remove the pollutant. So since most, if not all the painters in maalysia do not have a clean enviroment to spray matte paint, you may have a lot of imperfections on the finish.

Secondly, vinyl wrap does not have orange peel compared to normal paint job. I have to admit that the costs is exobirtant and prohibitive but these guys, I know them since they started the detailing business many years ago. The boss, Darren is insanely passionate about giving the best to the customers for what they pay him. I mean, I go to the garage practically everyday and everyday they are working on my car and would take approx two weeks. Even the rims they detailed every inch. This is what I called professionalism and excellent work ethics. (Btw, me no share in the garage ya..lol)

For vinyl wrap there are two categories. One is the flat colour and the other with some slight sheen giving it slight metalic look. I prefer the latter.

The only issue is that I rushed George to give a coat of paint before the vinyl wrap process. The paint seems to peel off..and the worker has to spend more time trying to get it wrap nicely..

Kayz,

yes it is matt silver. For paint job, you may wish to go for frozen grey on the latest M3. They look good provided our painter can get it right!

quoted from a forum about such item ..a good read IMHO

"For you guys who are interested, you can source vinyl like this at any sign shop (I personally work at FastSigns, there's 500 across the US so they're very easy to find). There are hundreds of colors, specialty patterns and effects and qualities you can pick from. Just measure each piece individually (Extra is ALWAYS better) and have an overestimated total when you are pricing it out. Keep in mind that wrapping is not by any means a solution in place of a paint job, it is just an alternative. It WILL get nicks in it, and at the very very best of conditions you will get a 5 year life out of it, while 1-2 years is more common. Removal also becomes increasingly difficult past this point. Go with a "cast" vinyl, not "calendered", and this is very important as a cast vinyl will be much more forgiving when installing. Also, if you have any freshly painted parts, you need to wait 30 days minimum for the paint to outgass properly. If you don't, when you remove the vinyl you will be taking all that paint with it. "

arggh for rm18K spent ...i don't mind sending in my car for a paint work every 2 years once for a 10 years span ... well individual preference i would say ...

Tx Iceman...I have read that before...I am not a DIY person...it is quite a painstaking job I must say...

Me am not that obsessed ler...I just drop by his place once a day..er. ..but tempted to go twice today...tks for the wish!

more pics coming soon!!!

holy s#$%!

Bro.. so you are going to do up the whole interior??
Carpets
console? Roof lining, ABC pillar etc etc... since these are all colour coded to your original Green interior.

Should get Alcantara roof lining, ABC pillars, rear speaker shelf. then the dashboard, console wrap in leather...

ck318ci,

Wah....not all la..only the seats and door card. I hated the green interior and the wooden panels. Then I managed to source the anthracite grey panels..blends in with the green interior..so i think black leather/alcantara seats and door card should match overall....

the roof lining recently restored by kepong cushion so no need alcantara ler...

u good in poisoning huh

No la.... i am very good at getting poisoned! hahaha

Hope the best for your car man..
E39 still look damn solid.
But I agree with you, Green would not be my first choice in interior trimming.
Black on Black with dark wood ( Like Bamboo. maple bird eye's or Piano Black is the best)

My 2 cents
