This can be a model set-up for E46 ICE for those who do not want drilling or cutting of door panels or rear parcel shelf like me. ;) From: Stock set-up:HU - BMW Business cassette................................... maintainedCD - BMW 6 Disc CD Changer (OEM Alpine)............. maintainedFronts - BMW 5.25" Mids (OEM HAES Germany)....... now in store-roomBMW 1" Tweeter (OEM )........................................... there but redundantRears - BMW 5.25" Mids (OEM) ................................ still in use (powered by HU)To:Amplifier:ALPINE MRP-F240 V-Power 4/3/2 Channel Power Amplifier 75W x 4 (Max) 100W x 2 RMS [4Ohms - Bridged @ 14.4V (0.3% THD)] 50W x 4 RMS [2Ohms @ 14.4V (0.3% THD)] 40W x 4 RMS [4Ohms @ 14.4V (0.08% THD)] Bass engine HP/LP Crossover Bass EQ (Variable Ch-3/4) RCA or Speaker Level Inputs MOSFET Output Transistors Front component speakers: FOCAL Polyglass 130 V Slim 2-way separate Woofer 130 mm Voice Coil 32 mmMotor Neodymium Tweeter Tioxid 5 TN 47 Filter tweeter 12 dB/octave (adjustable tweeter level)Max. power handling 100 W Nom. power handling 50 WSensitivity (2,83 V/1 m) 91 dB Frequency response 80 Hz - 20 KHz Subwoofer:JL Audio 12" subAt first wanted the Alpine Type E 10" sub. Used Focal 11" sub on loan for a few days. Finally decided on JL Audio's 12" subwoofer. Wiring: Rockford power cable Stinger speaker cables Power protection fuse QED RCA cables Switchcraft USA RCA termination Hi-to-Low Adaptor (connecting HU to Amp)All from KF Audio at Aman Suria, Kelana Jaya :D Good job!

Ade was spot on ....... the depth of the front door speaker compartment is so shallow..... can only fit my choice of Alpine 5.25" TYPE R speakers (SPR136) to the front without modification to the original grill if you drill a hole in the door.....else, the bass wont be good. So, NO NO for me.

I did not want to drill...my other option is to fit those 5.25" FOCAL slim speakers at the front (component set) ......but I still find the front mid-bass not as good as I would have liked. Needs tuning.

The FOCAL tweeters are very clear and good to hear higher frequencies.

The sound of the sub is ok. We started installation at 3.30pm and finished almost 10pm last nite! All so tired and I just wanna go home first. I will still need to go back for my SUB and will tweak the mid-bass to my liking too.

i got a problem which i need to hear input from ICE sifus like Vanquish and Affan. The shop said they will resolve the problem for me when i go back as it was too late yesterday.

I chose that amplifier because it can support hi-level inputs so that can re-use the BMW headunit ..... which has no low-level pre-outs (RCAs).

When i first hear the system, .......and when i turn off the HU there was a very faint "noise" .........because the amp was still on coz the engine was still on. At low volume, i can hear that noise too. I have very sensitive ears i must say and had this problem on an ICE set years ago. I need to resolve this as it irritates me.

Any suggestions?

great!

ur focal tweeties big ar?

cant fit to our default location of the existing one?

Thanks

how about is the Alpine 5.25" TYPE R ??

TQ

All done now. Very satisfied customer of KF Audio. The boss Mr. Siemen Liew took time to tune my ICE well. The noise was resolved with an "isolator" connecting the HU and the amplifier via RCA cables.

With careful tuning, KF Audio has managed to get the sound imaging perfect for me.

I have chosen JL Audio 12" sub and prefer that to the Focal 10".

Shall update the start of the thread to reflect my complete ICE set-up.

Maybe my set-up is useful info for BMW E46 owners out there who like me do not want any drilling or cut up of panels etc

bro i wan to see ur car

long time i didnt visit mr siemen :)

i was his old customer for my old ride :)

:D no problem, just PM me. I can meet you at KF Audio (Aman Suria) during weekdays at 6pm. Just PM me which day. Cheers.

The Amp and the Sub ..... simple and nice to me. The sub box has velcro underneath to hold it and when i need to go to the airport to pick up someone, just remove the sub box. Easy.

fyi, this problem was resolved with Hi-to-Low Adaptor. :yahoo:

Congrats bro stephen,

Finally u have done it....KF Audio...specializes in Focal products..good chap...followed a fren there once...

However, I'm not a fan of Focals...the tweeters are too high up the frequency range..not my type...prefer the silk dome tweeters...great for vocals...

Got to listen to your ICE setup one day to see how's the midbass of your setup...

Enjoy!

hehehe, u r right again. The Focals tweeters are high frequency and at first was not to my liking but slowly getting used to it.

The PLUS point about these Focals are the components come with Crossovers that are adjustable. So, I have tried a -3db and definitely better at loud volumes. Otherwise, the high pitch vocals can be uncomfortable when loud. Since i do not listen very loud, i switched back to 0 setting.

I think most high end crossovers are adjustable....0, -3, -6dBs...

Going back melaka anytime during labour day?

most probably .... PM me your cell phone no. and we will be in touch. I am now going to KF Audio again to see my friend's E46 installation of the "mini" Alpine active sub.
