Hi Guys,Just want to share my recent upgrade with you guys. Before I begin, I wish to thank the N54 bro's who have posted their reviews in e90post, and N54.com. Without their experiences I would not have gotten the knowledge required for this upgrade. Now let's begin, about a month ago my turbo's began to show symptoms of wastegate rattle, and loss of power, probably due to my heavy right foot. Coincidentally, I was scouting around places where I've been in the past for turbo overhaul (Turbo tong, Turbo One and etc). These shops have their plus and minuses but eventually I decided on one. While going through the list of options, which are:1. Remain TD03 turbo housing with bigger compressor wheel2. Single turbo upgrade (which needs new manifolds and other stuffs)4. TD04 turbo's with machining to the manifold and other parts.I decided to go to option 1, mainly because of safety reasons, and closer to OEM. Bigger size compressor wheel replace the factory one, clipped exhaust wheel with aggressive rake was replaced as well. Overhaul kit was a no brainier since the turbo was taken apart. Bigger sleeve for the wastegate valve should take care the rattle issue. The culprit behind my problem is due to the sleeve (that attaches the wastegate rod and exhaust outlet valve ,located in the manifold). This part moves globally, hence a new bigger sleeve replaces the old part. The second issue is the ECU, but was eradicated since I'm running on v3 from Procede map 7-29 (6AT upgrade turbo). With the turbo works and ECU on its way, I needed to tackle the fuel pump. In the past I've experience limp mode while driving but couldn't get the DME codes because of Procede (it deletes the codes automatically once engine is switched off/on). But being a risk adverse driver, I place an order for a new fuel pump just in case. Now that the whole works is completed I'm running the car through its paces and will WOT @ 300km (20km short of 200 miles). The whole ordeal took about 3 weeks inclusive of public holidays. It was a scramble to get them done on time but worth the effort. So far, the car's AFR is hovering above 10ish, and pick up around 1.5k-2k rpm has a little more punch than pre-turbo upgade. Disclaimer: The info provided are based on my personal experience and is not a direct reflection to other vehicle and its owners (i.e. read at own risk, and don't hold me liable)For photo's please browse through my album. http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/album.php?albumid=419Updates:14/5/12 - 1st 50km, the car just wanted to go off the line but had to restrain myself from accelarating. Gearshifts are smooth but occasionally jerking (probably procede is learning and adapting to the changes). Exhaust note more grunt (maybe because I haven't driven the car for a while).15/5/12 - Now its about 120+km with the new turbo's, jerking reduced. Am now on autotune rather than 7-29map. Turbo whistle is apperent (sounds like Mit Triton turbo spooling). Rev is limited to 1-3k rpm max. Yesterday was 1k-2k max.16/5/12 - WOT yeehaaa!, got the green light yesterday and oh my, car flying and feels lighter. Turbo spooling sounds like a superharge M3, hahaha. Saw supergripen's car behind MSD yesterday, nice mod by the way. Next update will be the last. Cheers!12/7/12 - Final UPDATE! Just changes spark plugs and boost sensor. Ordered new coils and injectors just in case. Remember to change your injector values using INPA, Princevick can help you with this. The car runs phenomenal and power is 300-330whp @ 3-3.5k rpm climbing to 4XXwhp with 5X tq/kg @ 6+k rpm, Car wheel spins like mad and power never ends. Fortunate for me the petrol consumption is abt 400km for full tank with mix of casual and spirited driving. MSD sales guys took it for a spin and the smile on their faces tells it all, ask them for a 3rd party testimonial. Thanks for reading and Moderator please close thread if applicable.

Wow..great stuff bro.If only this was available when I had problems with my pair of turbos. Are the turbine and compressor blade jobs based on known parameters or are they purely custom? Very interesting indeed especially when Rob Beck charges USD3k for what is on the surface a similar job.Would be great to see what kind of improvements can be had with this.

Mind pm-ing me the cost bro?

Good move on keeping to the TD03 housing cuz going with the other options would mean a lot of headaches not to mention the extra costs that'll be involved.

can i know the mileage of the car, when this problem happened, please .

thank you.

Thanks for d info. Looks like need to stock up parts in my condo store room. I guess this will eventually happen to some of us. Mine already started with abs....i wonder whats next

Haha... my turbo pressure sensors both kaput and replaced already,my no6 ignition coil ditto and I think the others are going as well(getting occasional CELs again).Oh yeah..my turbos also both replaced already.
Its bound to happen..but I don't really care.Cuz the car is such a hoot to drive!! Huge freakin' grin..hillarious.

Hi Cosmo,

do you mind sharing with me which workshop u chose in the end and how much ? PM me if you don't feel comfortable posting it here. I've a feeling that sooner or later (maybe sooner), I'm going to have to do some work on the wastegate. Got some soft rattling now.

Also, is it necessary to get a ecu remap/tune in order to use the revised turbo ? I'm thinking that as the total boost is controlled by the ecu, unless u want to run higher boost, it might not be necessary to do anything to the ecu ?? Then the benefits of the revised turbo would be quicker spool up (maybe) and maybe more reliable as won't be pushing the tiny turbo to the max...

Is the turbo conversion kit available at the workshop ? ex-stock ? Or did you have to order the stuff yourself ? Yeah, I did read about the revised turbo in some of the US online stores.

I'll PM you the contact person.

ECU is a must, as your fuel trim needs to be regulated to safe operational levels. I'm familiar with Procede, so you may ask further.

The whole works is a collective effort from various shops:
1. Workshop to remove the turbo
2. Turbo specialist

But the contact person is a one stop center.

My wastegates were repaired at turbo sang in cheras. I m on jb3 map 7. Not a tecnical person but nothing changed with d original ecu or my piggyback jb3. Cost of removing turbos was rm 800, cost of repairing both turbos n wastegates was rm 1800.

You may want to consider to upgrade to jb4 or make the switch to procede. this will help the wastegate rattle noise. but you cant hide from the inevitable (wastegate repair).

Yes.... regrets... the reason I'm asking is because I'm not on procede or jb4. I'm on cobb tune. And Cobb doesn't have a map for upgraded turbo or meth yet... Was almost on jb4.

Was just thinking that if I have to take out the turbo one day, might as well do the whole works...

I've had 5 cel warnings so far... 4 on P30FF (stock ecu) - gone after DV change and 1 time on P30FC - which I think is from the DV to chargepipe joint (mechanic went through the entire system down to the exhaust, including testing individual components, so they say, but can't find any leaks, ironically I spotted the loose dv joint myself)... which was temporarily patched using one of the better rubber seals from my old dv (no spare part avail). But the joint is still looser than what I would expect, but seems to be holding out. Waiting to order a ER chargepipe with Forge DV. If the new chargepipe doesn't solve the problem then it can only be the wastegate.

Frankly, the entire cold side intake design of the 335i seems to be set up for early failure - there is only one 3-4mm rubber seal holding the pressure between the dv and chargepipe. Locked down by a plastic twist lock. And a rubber elbow between the intercooler pipe and chargepipe that will probably expand even if I blow into it ! Not to mention all the cheap feeling plastics used in the pipes and valve. Arrggg... Yes, I spent too much time in the engine compartment trying to spot potential leaks

Eagerly awaiting on any updates you'd care to report on your upgraded turbos.Running fine? Problems if any?

Quite interested.Seeing and 'experiencing' the increase in the number of S4s and soon Golf and Roc Rs on our roads.

Sabar bro. Came accross some minor problems -
1. Replace ingnition coils and injectors.
2. Coding for the injectors
3. On holiday and will return next week.
4. Time - work

But all of these matter have been carefully arrange and shall be going to dyno before puasa.

Thanx for the update brader..yup,the ignition coils rasanya memang dah sampai masa kot.Mine also coming very soon, had problems with one already and was replaced. But CEL coming again intermittently so my guess is I'm gonna have to replace the other five.
Oh yeah, thanx for the contact you pm'ed me.Will be talking to him maybe after raya.Meantime will be adding some bolt-ons,the usual ones la;)

Hey supergripen,

How's the kw v2 ? Got the setting sorted out ? Happy with the handling ? So what add on mods did u do ?

My turbos have gone for their spa treatment but didn't upgrade them. Hope that sorts out the rattling wastegate and leak.

The KW V2 is fantastic.. so far my road setting is pretty soft, two clicks off the midpoint towards soft in the fronts and one click towards soft in the rear.Works very well on our 'superb' Malaysian roads.
I've also changed my tyres from the old Michelin PS3 to a new set of Eagle Asymm2.Dunno la,I know they've only got about 1000kms on 'em till now,but I feel that they haven't scrubbed in properly yet.I'm getting less grip still,at least compared to the PS3s and they move around a lot more at the limits.Roundabout screetching action feels less solid with the car moving around more.So far I'm not very happy with the Asymm2s.Even highspeed highway driving feels less planted through the steering, with quick lane changes feeling very floaty.. truth be told,I hate how the Asymm2 feels.
Maybe they need more miles on them before I make my final judgement.I don't remember scrubbing in taking more than what I've done though. We'll see.. hopefully things get better.PLEASE!
The KW V2 is great,the Eagle Asymm2 not so...yet.

Sigh..
