Dear All, My E39's GearBox Going To "Kong" Soon after Mileage Over 100k km.... Any Comment on this issue?? My machanic said i use the manual gear too much, walao!! if i dun play manual gear, what for i buy BMW???ai....

errr.. what are the symptoms??? Contracted AIDS? Syphillis? Heart Attack???

Anyway, have you changed the ATF before..??? There was a debate on this issue. It was supposed to be 'lifetime' ATF for the E39 but not sure whose 'lifetime' it refers to... Search the forum and you may find some interesting read.

i hear some ppl saying also using too much semi-auto gearbox will kaput faster. how true is this actually? if really so, i think they manufacturer better stick back to either fully auto or manual. anyway, nowadays its common for new make/design to have shifttronic, not like last time its a luxury to have it.

chopshop selling 4-5 k if ur is 5HP18 or 19 ...............

I changed ATF oil every 30k km.....ai....

the car now shift very rough.....especially from 1st gear to 2nd gear.....

the steptronic design can damage our gearbox ??? anyway, I still prefer manual gearbox more than steptronic....

Go and get a second opinion and get the tranny checked by a specialist bro. I don't think "palying manual " damages the gearbox. I do it all the time anyway and I'm sure BMW don't design things in such a way that it will breakdown if u use it!!

I have done overhaul on my gearbox, and surely can recommend to you one of the best gearbox sifu in KL to you, second opinion is definitely needed, especially from a reliable gearbox sifu. pls pm me.

My mechanic does the overhaul for about RM7.5k. He's done it sooooo many time...expert already. Don't buy chop shop, condition not known. Overhaul your existing one and use it for another 150k km. If ur mileage is right, u just unlucky. Mine is over 160k km and still working OK. Gotta change ATF next week though.
