So this is my story..and to date it has yet to be solved as the parties responsible doesn't seem to be doing their part.Back in 2010, I had issues with my engine and gearbox for my E30 and had decided for an upgrade (M42 engine). I had liaised with a forum member here as he had what I wanted. The engine was from a workshop of which the forum member liaised with to sell to me. The engine came complete with engine+gearbox+wiring so it was just going to be a plug'n'play kinda thing..which to my dismay is not as I would find out later on. The engine was an EWS coded one so the current package that I got did not have the essential items (EWS module). So I took it up to the workshop boss and he said he will send an ECU that will overwrite the EWS. Soon after, the ECU received was not of the M42 engine but M40 engine ( I checked the ECU number online and with a local workshop ). So since then until today as I am typing this now, I have been making calls to get this thing sorted out but until now things have not been resolved.FYI, all sensors are intact and functioning..fuel pump working. A friend advised to get a full set non-ews ecu with wiring which was what im pushing the workshop to provide but to date, they have failed to do so. the workshop is pretty known to members around here. The boss keeps making empty promises to me which had me stuck for 2 years. The forum member is also not showing much initiative to assist me. I have tried sourcing myself but to no avail as I do not have much time to go around looking and also I am trying not too add too much costs in the engine conversion project as i am running on a budget.I have no other choice but to voice out here. what are my options now?

Both workshop and forummer nick are quite known in our community. workshop is located in kuchai lama and forummer nick is associated with the name 'poison'.

So u got an M40 ECU instead, so is the car working? If both the car ECU is interchangeable and everything functions, then no issue mar.

2 years stuck with this problem, better to go get a whole engine M42( IS ) or my fav m20b25 with wiring ecu and all from a trusted source and solve it once and for all. You have to fork out some money but atleast you will have your car running on the road.

yes..in workshop for 2 years..i was lucky the mechanic and wireman was kind enough to help me safekeep the car for 2 freaking years. Car isn't running at all. everything is ready except the right ecu+wiring system to fire it up..so far I am having 3 ecus which are:

1. the original 950 silver label EWS ecu that came with the engine
2. a M40 ecu (which was sent by the workshop where i got the engine from, claiming that with that ecu it is able to run the car; which I don't think is interchangeable and suitable at all to run the car. the dme version tak ngam at all how to run!? single cam engine punya ecu to run a twin cam engine? impossible.)
3. a red label 590 ecu same as fellow forummer kura2 who also undergone a M42 conversion in which has no ews ( http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?39779-M42-ews&p=601884&viewfull=1#post601884 )

My last conversation with the boss of the workshop where i got the engine from was about acquiring the wiring, which he seems to be reluctant to do so if not why had he stalled me for 2 years?i had reminded him that in order to clear the matter i need the non ews ecu and wiring loom in one set..which was then I was sent the M40 ecu only, wtf? called him back requesting the same essential item and that the M40 ecu not ngam. he said ok will find. so a week or two after that i called to follow up..no pickup nor a call back..forummer associated with the name 'poison' also no sound and cannot be reached at the moment. can i actually bring this matter up to consumer affairs? since a simple solution is not an option for them to settle for me then i'll make it difficult for them perhaps?

bro Mizhan: that explained what?

Bro, another option u might try if u can't find d non ews ecu is to buy a non ews performance chip and swap into ur ews ecu. . According to one mech who did it and claimed its workable. . .

Another point here u claimed u tried with d non ews ecu also can't work, is ur mech or wireman make any mistake?

soory to hear about your ordeal ...best bet is to take a tow truck and tow the car the another workshop deem confortable to you who would be able to solve this problem without much drama ...

and yehh these days everyone is onto selling but when things aren't right ..who cares ...

bro lionel, how much would the performance chip cost? I am considering megasquirt also at the same time. gives me more options nxt time. regarding the non-ews ecu i just followed what another forummer got for his conversion (his ecu number is the same as the one i got so i assume its non-ews).i dont think there's any mistake from the wireman as we had gone through the wiring diagrams and connections several times over and over already. The engine cranks but no spark..

bro Mizhan: sure mate..ur number still the same?

bro iceman13: thanks for your concern bro. thing is..the workshop i got the engine from is in kl and i am located in sarawak.

I just hope that when the day comes the engine will fire up without any issues. sigh.

Hey... you want megasquirt? I am converting mine so I can ask for you the cost for converting. If you are in a hurry then it is not possible because the guy who is converting mine is doing it on the side. Let me know.

tamade7: I dont really get what you mean. so you are going to use megasquirt as well? on what engine? the guy whom you're dealing with have experience with megasquirt?

Mizhan: ok bro cheers!

Yeah I am converting the 190e cossie and this guy has lots of experience with megasquirt mostly on merc engines. I might convert the s14 as well as the m42 when there is a need.

Bro how much does it cost to convert your cossie? Is it a 2.5 16 or a 2.3. Would there be a difference in power delivery.

I paid RM16k for the conversion. It is a 2.5 and I won't know the power delivery until it is done. He is converting a Merc M117 at the moment and he said lets do it one by one. I guess I will have to wait to get a quote for the M42.
