After doing some research on this forum and reading about leforte's maf cleaninghttp://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18155I decided to try out cleaning the MAF on my E34 (M50B20). Was looking for the CRC MAF cleaner mentioned in his post. Checked out ACE hardware but they only have the CRC Contact Cleaner, which if you check on other forums is supposed to work in the same manner. However, after some detailed research on the MSDS sheets of each product I found that they are NOT the same so I didn't want to take the risk.Called up CRC Malaysia and the sales manager was very helpful and directed me to the newly opened Brother's in Ampang. Plenty of MAF Cleaner's there in case anyone else is looking.Process is quite easy as it just required removal of the MAF and just spraying the MAF Cleaner inside the housing and onto the hot wire element. Quite a bit of dirt was flushed out. While doing this I also removed the intake temp sensor (located on the intake manifold just to the right of the throttle sensor) and cleaned that with the MAF Cleaner also. After reinstall the car seems to be smoother and it has eliminated a small flat spot around the 2k-3k rpm range. Throttle response has also improved. Not sure if there's anymore power (how to measure objectively????.....) but I would definitely recommend this as its quite easy to do.I'm waiting to find out if this improves the hot weather driveability of my car as it struggles a bit when the engine bay is really hot but so far so good.

Ahhh ... thank you so much bro :top::top::top: i've been looking for it for sumtime but to no avail ... you're da man bro :top: ... where in ampang is d shop???

I think you can try any Brother's accessory shop. Or if not can try to call:

CORECON (MALAYSIA) SDN. BHD.
603-5124-8104

They are the distributor for MY. The receptionist didn't know what I was talking about but passed me to the mgr who directed me there.

If you do want to go to the Ampang Brother's, directions as follows:

Coming from Ampang Point heading into Ampang. Keep going straight. 2nd traffic light turn light. You can see the new shop lots from the traffic light. There's a Cavenzi furniture shop at the corner. Brother's is on the same row facing the main road but easier to turn in if you turn right at the lights.

Hope this helps.

seech, thanks for the sharing and telephone #. I shall call to find out where in PG there's CRC MAF cleaner.

2 weekends ago I bought a magnetic tape header cleaner (also made by CRC) and sprayed on the MAF (m50B25tu). Didn't seem to feel much difference, but not that the MAF was dirty to begin with.

Just cross-checking on your process, here're the steps I have to go thru. Let me know if there's better/easy way:
1. unscrew the mouting (2 nuts using size10 spanar) of the air filter housing, the portion where left hand side of the MAF housing mates into. I also have to take out the air filter in order to have some room for movement needed below.
2. unscrew 2 screws (size7 spanar, I've to get this in hardware store) that holds the MAF housing to the air filter housing above.
3. untighten the other end of the MAF housing which connects to the L-shape rubber hose linking to throttle. Now the MAF housing is finally free!
4. spray the cleaner thru the mesh, following the air intake direction (wear face mask, not healthy to inhale the cleaner).
5. reverse above steps for installation.

ps/ MAF housing plastic towards the edge can be a bit brittle... so handle step 2 & 3 above carefully, don't brute force anything. I marked the metal strap screw position in step 3, so that I don't over tighten when I put things back.

ps2/ the air filter housing has aluminium foil cover (why?), luckily I didn't punch a hole accidentally during disassembly. It was not visible from top view...

viewfinder, not sure what the maf and hose looks like with the m50b25tu. For mine I just removed the screws holding the MAF to the air filter assembly (no need to remove air filter assembly). Pull MAF away from the air filter aseembly (the hose connecting it is flexible) then remove the hose clip connecting the rubber hose with the MAF and remove MAF.

seech, I guess it's the same based on your description. But the L-shape hose (connecting MAF to throttle) is pretty stiff in my car that I didn't dare to exert too much force. Aging rubber.

An Alfa friend did it differently. He uses a torx (spelling) allen key to remove the MAF sensor unit directly... apparently there's no gasket there.

last week i went to brothers store...saw this CRC mass air flow cleaner, tangan gatal went n buy it at RM40. it says on the bottle somethin like 'guaranteed 4 - 10hp on wheel power increase'...cool. cleaned up my 'defective' 4 yrs old old MAF which i replaced 3months ago accordin to the instructions and waulau...it performed like a brand new unit! power, fuel economy, response much better than b4 cleaning and no difference with the new MAF. the old MAF was very dirty before cleaning and most of the dirt came off just by spraying the crc cleaner.

i'm putting up my 3 months old MAF for sale and will be usin back the old one. thanks seech for the valuable advise...

i just cleaned the maf on my car. a lot of greenish stuff flowed out from it no thanks to it having been parked for too long at the port. car is so much lighter on the revs. big thanks to the original thread contributor leforte and also seech for bringing this up.

For those that are looking for this cleaner, I got mine from the hardware shop beside Tenichi Audio, PJ for RM29 bucks. Works like a dream, more so if your air mass is dirty due to the K&N filter oiling.

Cheers

i'm feeling itchy to try it out on my E34 this weekend...just hope i don't break/ spoil anything while doing it...thanks guys for the wonderful information!!!

Albundy, care to share where is this tenichi audio? i wonder if cleaning can bring my defective maf back to life.

Macgy, go to PJ Old Town drive towards Campbell Soup factory. Turn Right go straight all the way till you see a T junction. Turn right and Tecnichi Audio is there. Turn left you would see Ford Dealership. This row of shops are facing the Federal Highway.

Cheers

And their price is extremely reasonable. Owner is friendly, with plenty of merboks inside the shop :)

Just got my CRC MAF cleaner yesterday and perform a clean on it..

After all is done I do not feel much difference from before but am still monitoring the fuel consumption...

Am I suppose to see a lot of dirt after the spray.. It looks clean to me.. I put a white paper under the area I spray and it is still white as ever after that..

Any comments..

bro, this mean that your air filter is working well and keeping the MAF clean. you should be happy with this condition. :top:

Did mine a year back and this is what I got onto the table after spraying.

Hopefully it can help with the fuel consumption part.. Mine is doing something like avg. 8.5km/100L
