hello my friends as title, silver cab N52 got more power then black cab M54 but wich is more easy maintain? thanks for advice

If u ask easy to maintain no doubt its M54 engine variant and it will cost cheaper too.
N52 engine is newer technology that churn out higher HP but same cc engine provide the same torque NM.
M54B25 provide 191hp & 250NM and N52B25 provide 218hp & 250NM. The best go for higher cc car you can afford for NA engine.
I owned both type. Personally I prefer M54 anytime.

If you intend to buy now and your choice is between M54b25 vs N52b25, you might also want to think about the age of the car. Everything has a life span and eventually there would be wear and tear. M54 E60's are probably 7-9 years old now so you will eventually have to spend a bit more in replacement/repair. It's not that the parts are not reliable but just the age of it :) Everything will eventually spoil over time, lol.

M54 is for earlier E60 year 2003 - late 2005
Post Sep 2005 E60 has N52 engine..

While N52 has higher hp (218 as opposed to m54's 192).. I think many face makan minyak issue for N52 engine. Not all are lemons though.. As my E60 with N52 engine does not have this kind of problem (touch wood)

oh, i though n52 is more fuel saving, cus the engine is lighter, did the idrive software need to upgrade?

To be honest, fuel consumption is very subjective from a driver's perspective. Newer technology/engine will always have a better fuel consumption and this is measured in the labs. However in our daily usage, it also depends on our driving style. If you really want a super good consumption, hybrid or diesel is the way to go. If you compare M54 and N52, I can tell you it's more or less the same. Although N52 might be better, it wouldn't help us to save RM1000 of petrol a year either :)

Looking at the wrong engine. Should be looking at the M54B30 instead.

You'll forget about the fuel consumption the moment you press the pedal.

That said, the M62B44 has a special place in my mind now......

Hi, I have experienced both on the E60 - M54 is more reliable and better in terms of maintenance.

I think the N52 is still the latest for Malaysia except Turbo version cars and upcoming F10 that runs on 4 cylinders :)

N52 magnesium engine has one common problem.. makan minyak hitam

Yup, mine certainly does that. I think it's also the engine with the sludge problem - according to my independent mechanic. Claims that if you change engine oil only when the car tells you to, the engine may piang due to sludge build up.... I change my engine oil at 10k km, instead, just in case... Mechanic even showed me pictures of the N52 engines he has rebuild and man, I've never seen so much sludge in the engine.
