Hi all, I have been comtemplating about this for a long time. Now it come the time seriously look into this possibility. I wish to have the present intake manifold of my engine M52B28 change to that of one from a M50B25 engine. Has it been done before here in M'sia? Reason being BMW has got this flow constricting intake manifold from a 2.0L installed on the M52B28 to keep the power down to a certain level to prevent it from being tax in a higher category. If I understand correctly, Germany's tax structure on vehicle is based on engine bhp rather than engine capacity. So to keep the then E36 328i price down, they have install the manifold from a 2.0L engine to keep the power dwon to 193bhp on crank. So anyone can point me to the right direction in changing the manifold to the one in the E36 325i? Would appreciate any good feedback. Cheers.:D

Well...if you are in Penang and intersted in doing it. Go ask the Chop Shop in BM. Their boss in Puchong ,offered me the Intake manifold, throttle body and the MAF for a very reasonable price.

too bad it can't be use for M20...

Thanks for your reply.

What's the name of the chop shop? the change of the manifold is simple ?

So besides the intake manifold from M50B25, I also need the throttle body and mass air flow meter from the same M50B25? which throttle body is bigger ? M52B28 or the M50B25?

I dunno dude. I suggest that you go refers to other international forums and look for parts needed for the conversion.

The name of the chop shop in BM is New World.
As for me...I highly recomends that you play with stock engine and get a manual tranny to play with first.

yes. Manual conversion like your bro's is the best example of M52B28.
After sitting in his ride, made my car feels like 1.6/1.8 only.
However, manual conversion is more complicating and more money needed.
besides the manual gear box, long shaft , rear diff, foot rest modification for the clutch paddel and also must remap.

Hope to spend something like 1K to 1.5K for the complete manifold job.

Sesat mate, what's 50? DN50 for the throttle body?

i have seen a 328i with the 325 intake manifold conversion in action. Worth the money spend. The car really flies. One of the forumerer has done it b4.

Hi Elwine, how's things? Great I hope.
Yeah, mag like Total BMW and PBMW have shown cars that have done such upgrade.
one example said to have 225bhp from changing the manifold, big throttle body, underdrive UUC pulley and cold air intake. not bad in my book.
I think it's the "cheapest" bhp gain for this M52 engine.
Your friend's car is also a auto? conversion done in KL?

8080,

convert to manual 1st lah, then upgrade your intake after all. Then after M3 3.2 cams and maping.......You will fly ......!!!!!!

If you want M50 manifold with throtle body i can help, fren of my got one dead engine with all this items still attached.

Your is running OBDII, so used back your ori AFM. M52 Throtle bigger.

All you need is custom make the bracket to fit your M52 throttle.

Who have customise make bracket ? ask Linoel or slide, need thier contact let me know.

By the way where is LCP and Alan Teh ?

Let support our mate for his upgrade.... ?

Anything you guy want to add in ? :D :D :D Racun him kau...kau !!!!!

Let give him all the option :) :) :)

IIRC intake manifold conversion for M52 also requires a remap for you to extract the full power increase.

Ask Slides

Yes Slide has done it already to his 328. You better PM him, but he probably advise you to keep it stock than to spend $$ on mod. At the end of the day, the amount u spent will probably get u an E36 M3, yet the mod could not match a M3.

I don't think 8080 has intention to upgrade to match M3 la.....

Ori is always the best, but man always have back itch mah.....!!!!!

Just for the hack of power crazy upgrade only....:D :D :D

I'll try to PM Slide.

One day I'll have my ori ///M. Just got to work harder, smarter and earn more money. I have the utmost respect for the ///M and admiration for it's owner.

Cheers.

Got yr pm but thought i would write for all to see.
Yes the restriction for tax thing is a bummer, but with the 320 manifold you get a lot more torque. I know of one guy who put on a 320 manifold to his 325 and says its a good mod to do. U loose out right bhp but gain midrange. It's all about compromises.

Since yours is an auto, i suggest u stick to stock. It's a good mod but you have to try out a car that has done this before u decide what to do. In a drag race, i will probably loose out till my car hits 4000 revs. i took a stock 328 out the other day and was blown away at how much better it pulls below 4000 revs. But having said that after 4000 revs it really kicks. And when u r really gunning it, have u noticed after a shift it drops to 4000k and pulls from there? It really only comes into itself when you're hammering it. Why does it work? At high revs the 320 manifold can't supply enough air.

But to make it worth your while, you will need to get a proper air filter and ideally pair that with some US m3 cams. Then u might also want to look at dropping your cat and getting a remap. But once you've done all this you should also do yr brakes and suspension. Not to metion u need good tires too. In the end you just might have well spent enough to buy an M3.. which is what i should have done if only somebody told me before i started.

But if you still wanna do it, easiest way is to buy all your stuff from e36coupe.com, but it's also the most expensive. You can do it all yourself, but you'll need to make some brackets and mod the manifold to fit. Also you'll need to make an adaptor to match the 328 TB to the 325 manifold.
