Salam to all,I am a Bimmer owner wannabe. Need advice on my potential purchase. Saw this 2002 325I SMG E46 at Naza today. Friends have advice against it due to gearbox problems. Any advice from all the sifus out there?

Don't know about that particular gearbox.. but when it comes to price, Naza's probably the last place to search..

I drive an e46.. gearbox smooth as baby's backside :D

Thanks for the input. If Naza is the last place to get this car, can you suggest a place? I am looking for an unregistered car so that I can get the number that I want.

Get a copy of Motor Trader.. plenty of dealers with plenty of unregistered beemers.. :)

Well, I'm not saying that the car in Naza's not a good deal.. Just scout around a bit more.. chances are, there are better priced ones out of Naza.

Cheers..

i have no prob on the gearbox so far.....infact its fun , thrill and excities me...

Hello bro, me too the gear box works very well even in auto mode or shifttronics systems. The most important here is services according to the schedule in order to avoid such thing. By the way, is your friend own E46 too

W'salam..

How much they offer to you? Between my ride is SMG year 2003. Dont really have a problem with the gearbox.

The characteristic is different from auto transmission gearbox which you have to learn and understand it.

If you decided to get the SMG my advise is to go to a workshop that really know about the whole SMG system.

About the "Plate no" is not a bit issues Driller. You can inter change with whatever no that you like if you bought the used car.

Good luck in your hunting Driller..

Off topic:D . Why you asking his friend driving SMG or not? just my curiosity la dear acidburn

errmmmmm we are talking about SMG manual gear box rite and not shifttronics systems...

driving 325Ci SMG for years... no problem so far...
good luck.... happy hunting...

I mean what exactly is SMG? Does it stand for Semi Manual Gearbox? Is it a manual but with automatic clutch? How does it work and what are the usual issues with it? I'm intrigue but blur about SMG. :p

The principle of Sequential Manual Gearbox(SMG)

The sequential manual gearbox (SMG) is an automated manual gearbox in which an electro-hydraulic system actuates the clutch and shifts gear.

Operate the SMG by means af a selector lever in the centre console and 2 shift paddles on the steering wheel.

It offer the following funtions:

1. Sequential, automated gearshift mode - cruise mode (C mode)
2. Choice of 2 driving programs - normal and sport (only in sequential mode)
3. Accelartion assistant - launch control
4. Automatic double declutching
5. Dependability of positive gearshifts (only in C mode)
6. Automatic downshifts at minimum engine rpm ( both in C mode and sequential mode)
7 Kick down funtion. ( both in C mode and sequential mode)

Acceleration assistance

The accelaration assitant permits optimum racing-style acceleration on surfaces with good grip.

1. Select the sport mode program
2. Press DSC button, and keep it pressed for longer than 3 seconds
3. Quickly press the eccelerator pedal all the way to the floor- kick down.
The engine is electronically balanced to achieve maximum pullaway rpm....

It's from Owner's Handbook...... My 0.02P:cool: dear meetoo..

Thank you for the education, YellowMellow :)
