try changing the eng coz standard stock eng (m20 or m40) not efficient try m42 manual taken from e36 (single cam) but i think m44 taken from z3 is better coz its twin cam.im using m44 replacing my m40 sound better feels better and smoother ride.

M20 not efficient? if you want efficiency better buy a honda city. hahaha..

M20B25 rules btw. :top:

Hi

Would like to chip in, bro mizhan, where is your usual mechanic if i would also like to get a health check on my car ?

If it is ok with you.

Cheers

E30 M42 in action in SIC during last sunday's HPC track day....

3-5 sec off the 3 min mark... will clean up the line slightly and also need to have the right tyre pressure, I believe the rear tyres had too much air causing the twitchy rear..

i agree with you. i've driven both 4 and 6 pots, and perhaps the smaller engine is more suited for stunts you see on TV, the M20B25 is clearly the better all rounder. that is if you discount a well executed 2.7 210bhp conversion :)

As per my records...the M20B25 engine is one of the reliable engines from BMW...of course you can't beat the M30 engines which are bullet proof...

To extract more horsies from the M20B25, perhaps you may wanna look into common areas like ECU mods.

The existing cam's in the M20B25 is also not that "powderful"...an upgrade to cams of 270 ~ 285 is also recommended...

I have tried the ECU mods on my M20B25 and you can feel the throttle response and lightness of engine to respond....simple terms the engine was more peppy...tried it for a short while and did not see other side effects like erratic idling or switchable auto not engaged well etc...I agree longer time testing is necessary....But it works..

M20 engines are nice little engineering gems but require an experienced M20 mechanic to set it up right. Nothing wrong with a stock M20B25 as long as it is healthy and set up right. For an old school engine, it is still creamy smooth with a wonderful spread of torque throughout the powerband.

Best engine IMHO for an e30 if you only have one under the garage.

Then again you have to try an e30 with a M30B35 under the hood to truly appreciate the term 'automotive porn' :)

....or an e30 with a M50B32 :)

......or the most underrated engine for the e30, the M42B18, as exemplified by Fabian :)

At the end of the day, most engines from BMW are fantastic engineering gems. You just got to set them up right and learn its characteristics.

How about 2.7 eta engine with some modification..??? more efficient??

It will become less efficient and drink like an Irishman on a Friday night.

ETA engines are built to be low revving high torque units that save fuel.

Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M20#Regular_2.7_Eta_based

To truly build a proper 2.7 requires internal parts and specific cylinder heads that are almost impossible to find. Research the net and you will see that it is akin to neurosurgery:listen:. Not straight-forward at all.

If you're a cruiser, ETAs are nice....but if you're a bruiser a stock M20B25 has more punch.
