Guys, want your feedback if any of you had suffered the same problem. Occasionally, as in intermittently, whenever I:-1. Turn my steering to full lock, sometimes to the left or to the right; or2. Turn the steering to the right or left a bit and accelerate hard...my bloody horn will give a honk, sometimes short and sometimes long. What infuriates me most is that this happens not all the time but always happens at the most inappropriate time i.e. when moving off from traffic lights and turning or parking the car. I do get "funny" stares from the other cars or passers-by. Worse yet, when I send my babe to my mechanic for check-up, the horn behaves. So for the moment, I have disabled the horn by removing the fuse. Do not want to become another road rage victim... :D Any ideas what is causing the problem? Worn out switch? Switch needs to be aligned?Wondering why my babe has these infuriating little electrical problems????

ha ha ha could be an unfigured person sitting next to you lorrr.... :D :p

JK.
Or the damn little gremlins lurking in my car???? :(

Definately a short circuit of some sort. I remember donkey years ago I had a Sunny 130Y with a sports steering and a boss kit. Due to bad manufacturing, the boss kit did not fit without some filing. So all was well until one day the car started to honk at it's own will. Could not find the problem for weeks and drove without a horn like you.

Finally removed the steering and boss kit and there it was the metal filings inside causing a short circuit and the horn to go off by itself. After a cleanup it never happened again. :)

if you turn the steering and the horn is activate, remove the steering and check the contact for the horn. find the switch and see whether the clearance is suffient.

The problem is, my steering got airbag. So gotta find out all the possible source of problem before taking apart the steering. Really hate to DIY a steering with airbag... that damn thing is like a time bomb if not handled properly.

I figured it could be the switch clearance problem or something is wrong with my slip rings.

Maybe it is better I just take it to my mechanic. :(

please take it to a mech quick, the horn is important to warn motorists or people when they can't see you...
you can get into a accident..

regards.

Horny car or horny owner? haha!
Both???? :p

What to do... have to be a monk for a few more months liao... :D

But anyway, thinking of sending it to mechanic this evening, if can still make it on time.

horny driver la... nothing else.... don't blame the car if you are becoming a monk.

Are both hands on the steering wheel when the car honks? Then check your third hand :D

Ish ish... minda kotor... :D

Woi, I am a monk ar....

Try this :
There are 3 screws at the back of the steering wheel, one on the left, one on the right and one at the bottom ( I am assuming you have the same steering wheel as mine )
If the horn sounds when you full turn the steering wheel anti clockwise, release the screw on the left a bit. Vice versa.

Now it is weirder... I don't even have to turn the wheel to honk. All I need to do is to put some pressure on the steering wheel i.e. push it a bit and she honks! (By the way, when I say push, I did not mean push the horn the button.) Also, now when I am on full turn, she horns full time and not like before when it was like a short toot.

Damn, had to take out the fuse. Now really really gotta try to go to my mech to fix the damn thingy. Cud not make it yesterday due to the rain and traffic jam. :(

Hope it is something cheap and simple to rectify.

it should be cheap flash. it must be some contact problem. maybe too much of those conducting grease or too little contact clearance.

that' really wierd, Flash. Looks like the steering had come a bit loose. Try grabbing the steering and jerk it a few times. Does it have any free play?

sent your car to the mech already-ar? Hmm, it's good to hear what caused the problem
