The Star - July 27, 2010Heavy vehicles banned from three NSE stretches during peak hoursPETALING JAYA: In a bid to ease traffic congestion on the North-South Expressway during morning peak hours, heavy vehicles have been banned from certain stretches from Aug 2.The ban applies to vehicles, except buses, weighing 10,000kg and more. These vehicles must stay off designated stretches from 6.30am to 9.30am on weekdays. The routes were the New Klang Valley Expressway between Shah Alam and Jalan Duta, the North-South Expressway between Sungai Buloh and Bukit Lanjan and Federal Highway Route 2 between Subang and Sg Rasau.Plus Expressways Berhad managing director Noorizah Abd Hamid said the slow movement of heavy vehicles was a main contributing factor to traffic congestion especially during peak hours.“The situation is made worse when these heavy vehicles are stranded due to breakdowns and accidents,” said Noorizah. The ban is in line with the existing one, implemented by Kuala Lumpur City Hall on heavy vehicles entering the city during the morning and evening peak hours.Noorizah said Plus would study the possibility of extending the ban to evening peak hours. She also advised lorry drivers to use alternative routes (see map).Federal Traffic Chief SAC Datuk Abdul Aziz Yusof said those who violated the ban could be compounded up to RM300 and if they decide to challenge the matter in court and lose, they can be fined up to RM1,000, jailed three months or both. The police, he said, would work closely with Plus to come out with the best mechanism to enforce the ban. However, exemption will be given to vehicle operators that can prove that their goods must arrive at the ports at specific times. In an immediate response, Fede*ration of Malaysian Manufacturer president Tan Sri Mustafa Mansur said the move would not cause much impact as lorries could still use other routes to get to their destinations.“Although it is further, the cost of diesel will be the same as lorries are not stuck in traffic jams if they take the highway,” he said while urging haulier companies to reschedule their deliveries to prevent delays in the arrival of goods.Pan Malaysia Lorry Drivers Association president Er Sui See, however, was unhappy with the ban, calling it unfair and a major hassle.“Why must they ban us? We also pay toll,” he said.“It is ridiculous to expect us to apply for temporary permits each time we need to use the highway during the ban time.”

Yes, ban them. Some lorry driver use the second and third lane. They think they own the road.

As for me, I think PLUS or Transport Ministry should look into imposing a minimum speed for these heavy vehicles, like 60km/hr.

More often that not, these vehicles are overloaded and struggled to even reach 20-30km/hr on certain stretches (hill climb) and hence contributing to the worsening traffic.

Cheers

yup, trucks are always overloaded. the cops stop them and the truckers will bribe the cops to avoid fines. even better, they have 'special' sticker to show bribes have already been paid upfront so as not to be harassed by the cops or JPJ.

Malaysia Boleh!

As i had observed, bus drivers are much more reckless then lorry drivers..they said they will start to fix black boxes on every bus but all empty talk only..

this is m'sia...semua boleh la. lorry hantu also can drive around. overwieight until crawling up hill also can. :D why change when its been working for the past 50 years :D hahahah.....

But the lorry driver association is already complaining ... "Not fair, we pay toll too!"

You are one understanding driver. Thank you. *kow tow kow tow*

I'm in transportations and believe me. Sometime it's not the truck,Its the driver from the back that are not observing their speedos. They dun observe, anticipate and learn how to reacts.Noticed nowadays accidents involving trucks are young drivers. Don't simply pick on thr truck drivers.

3 criterias that most driver don't have....basic road craft understandings.

"Observe" you time your destination - Look at your watch and plan la. If late, blame yourself not the traffic.

"Anticipate"
the traffics situations If it's on peak on hours and if you can't stand the jam, don't drive. Car pool la.

"Reacts"
accordingly on the road. If you driven a diesel vehicle with payload ,then you'll know why. If going uphill or a slope, they are slow. As a driver, keep your distance ,be sure it's safe to overtake.

Drive with consciousness not with speed and arrogance.

It's not how fast you get to your destination,it's how you planned it. duhh!

Jarance,Come I let you drive with half ton of payload, try driving it at night. A lot of patiences needed you know? You'll see a lot f harrasment along the way. I buy you nescafe ping ok.

But I admit,IT IS timely that they imposed the the restrictions. I guess I have to make new plans. I can change ..but can you guys change?

Ya i have seen buses doing 150km/h at night..had encountered few near misses when they cut through speed lane without looking at back and giving signal...even had called the number aduan and complained but i guess all boleh kowtim one here..the horrifying Sani Express and famous death coach Konsortium are still operating like nothing had happened..why punish the driver and not the boss? Well most of the bosses are Datuks maybe..back to square one!

Zoggee. no need. I have done many delivery in my younger days. No aircon, lousy seats, backside numb feeling after 6 hours.

I am talking about lorry driver and express bus who occupied the 3rd lane. They should be banned. Not only them, that goes for people who hog the road.

The third lane is for overtaking. It is not for travelling at the speed limit. :stupid:

btw, no doughnut on public road.

I would agree to ban bus and truck hogging the 3rd lane. I had encounter with Cepat Express. They dun care, they indicates and simply shift to the 3rd lane without considerring the safety of cars from behind.

Of all 7 out of 10 heavy comercial vehicles that caused accidents ARE buses ,always speedings . Most trucks accident due to mehacnical breakdowns not human error. Oh yeah, the bad apples in trucking lines are the Tipper trucks/Lorry Tanah ,drivers dangerous driving. You'll notice it happens everyday on LDP. No proper enforcements. MR.Sandman always got sand money ma.

I think they should put a blanket ban on all heavy vehicles during peak hours. Its the norm now to get stuck for an hour at the kia peng area just becoz of some dumb arse cement truck parked by the road taking up a whole lane... damn police also not bothered to check on these areas which are main tourist areas... Its so atrocious...every system 'implemented' here sucks big time... we're a bleedin 4th world country

How many times have we heard the gomen say they will ban this, ban that or enforce this or enforce that. All bullshit if you ask me it is all because there is NO ENFORCEMENT. No enforcement means, they are either not around to do their jobs e.g. just take a look at the street parking! or not doing their jobs properly i.e. instead of giving the bugger a fine, they negotiate. This heavy vehicles ban has a loophole. Before too long it will be abck to square one because every heavy vehicle also has a permit to justify their need to be on the road during peak hours. Just another golden opportunity for some people who like to negotiate to make money. Watch and see.
