After reading the whole thread....seems like its dangerous to drive up genting.

haha

Hey guys...

My advise is..if u guys have a bimmer breakdown problem in Genting...Drop a call to Uncle Lim..He will sure help you ones provided fix deposit document shows to him..ha ha ha !! :)

Have UDM but scared to drive up to Genting?

Hi.... Have driven my 318 (2001) up to Genting (from S'pore) about 4 times w/o problem but always did a pre-check with regard to brakes & belting. Sure it is a calculated risk driving up ... but then again if you keep worrying about the risks all the time, you'd never be driving the car out of the car-park !!

What my point is, will there be any negative effect on the car if you do hill climbing? Not short-term effect but long-term.

These car is not meant for hill climbing, no matter what makes. Easy example, like you drive F1 car on a rally track. Yes you still can drive but what will happen to the car?

Go up Genting with Kancil oso still can, leave alone a UDM. but that is not my point. If you guys talking about belting, brakes etc those are short-term effect, don't drive up Genting oso still need to change after some time rite?
If you guys talking about road condition, driver skills etc, those got nothing to do with the car.

The whole point of my question is what will happen to the car? Example, two E46 2002, both mileage 100k. 1 car got the 100k by going Genting up and down. The other 1 got the 100k by going LPT KL-KT back and forth.

What will be the different?

been up there over this weekend. did hill hopping with the missus.

went to bukit tinggi.. then drove up to the jappy garden (twice... aiyah.. my wifey punya pasal la) and down bukit tinggi to go visit uncle lim at the top of the hill and them down again and then up again to bukit tinggi.. then down again... ok wat!

just dun drive like a mad man.. la.. u be ok. no prob at all.

moral of the story is... most of the guys that have issues with thier cars are those not maintain properly and they think going up the hill is like driving in the F1 circuit.
so what if u a little bit slow.

p.s.
mumble mumble... fark fark... just be careful when coming down. near the Karak toll right at the bottom of the hill.. got one pesky chai-loh... taking photo.

i think i got my potrait taken and I wasn't driving fast!!!! .... only 140km/h mah.... fast meh?!!!... blardy pesky chai-loh wit camera.

hello sesat88..

u missing the whole point again. u go up and down up and down, yes u be ok. no prob at all. in fact, all type of cars is going be ok. no prob at all.

Well, pujiness, be it BMW or other makes etc....in my opinion who really knows what are the long term effect? If there is an article written on it, I would like to know too.

My 2 sens, a car is a car, and it tear and wear everytime u uses it. Who knows what is the long term effect in terms of mechanical failure. The only mitigation is that as long as you take care of it and properly maintain it, I am pretty sure that it won't fail you in the moment in need.

Let go back to fundamental, if one of your car component is a sub standard quality and due to this, this component may causes other component to fail be it you are driving to the moon or around the kampung. Will it fail during hill climb? Will it fail during on road driving? Who really knows when it will fail or how much damage impact it has on your vehicle?

Why do you say that these BMW are not for hill climbs? I am sure that when the engineers design it, hill climbs are a factor taken to in consideration. Afterall this is the UDM.

All I know is that if you sayang your car, then take is slow and easy, get the warning signal checked out, have a mechanic look into the strange noises you get, change part as necessary etc. and most importantly enjoy the drive.

peace man!

p.s.
Maybe you can share your views too, on why your mechanic says that Bimmers are not suitable in going up to Genting?

Good.. dat is the answer to my question. no one here knows wat will happen to the car.
thnx a lot :)

And also, im not saying BMW is not the car for hill climbing. It just not meant for it. That is why they came up with the X-series..

I've taken care of my car well enough and im gonna use it for a long time. My greatest concern is how long will the car last? If hill climbing shorten the life-span of the car.. well, its good enough to say its not advisable.
If its not, then no worries..

cheers

Hello guys,

To make life easier, just park your car in the garage and use public transportation instead. This is what Japan and Singapore had practice these days. They only use their ride during weekend or season break holiday. That was also one of the reason why 5 years recond car but low in mileage.

BMW Is Not A Normal Car La.....Y Worried So Much Thinking Can Go Up Genting Or Not?

Come On, We Just Want To Enjoy Then We Buy BMW.

Relax Guy.....Enjoy Your Ride, No Matter Where U Go........

lepas ie anak uncle LIm laa pulak akan saman saper drive more than speed limit.

"PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, founder and honorary life president of Genting Group, passed away at 11.20am Tuesday at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre.
The tycoon, who turned 90 in April this year, was renowned for his vision in transforming Genting Highlands from an unexplored hilltop to one of the world's most successful casino resorts.
The fifth child in a family of seven children, Lim migrated from China's Fujian province in 1937 at the age of 19 with only a small suitcase and US$175.
The idea of a hill resort was chanced upon by Lim amidst the crisp air of Cameron Highlands in 1964. Lim was then working on a hydro-electric power project at the popular hill resort, patronised mostly by British colonials seeking cool refuge from the tropical heat, when he foresaw a prosperous Malaysia of the future desiring a cool mountain holiday resort within the reach of all Malaysians.
To date, Genting Highlands Resort has five hotels and two apartment blocks at the hilltop and Awana Genting Highlands Golf and Country Resort.
The company, founded in 1965, has since expanded and diversified from its initial hotel and resort activities to plantations, properties, paper manufacturing, power generation, oil and gas, electronic commerce and information technology development under Genting Group.
According to Forbes Asia, the Genting Group founder was third richest in the country with a net worth of US$4.3bil (RM14.6bil).
Lim is survived by wife Puan Sri Lee Kim Hua, and their six children and 19 grandchildren. "

pujiess,

No one will know exactly how roadworthy his/her car is eventho everything has been serviced or checked on a regular basis. Hill climbs, slope climbs or even simply reversing the car out of the car park. I've driven my ex E30 up and down the hills many time without any problems except for a minor issue with the powersteering pump during one of the convoys up to Fraser's Hill. No big deal!

Driven my current E36 up too..without any hassle. But on the other hand, I drove a Opel frontera up once and it gave some gearbox problems, Mitsubishi pajero too due to over heating.Bear in mind both cars are 4x4's .

No one can predict the when it will break down or the how much wear and tear it will do to your ride. If you think your BMW is not meant to climb hills, then by all means do not climb hill with it.

By the way, Unker Lim handed over the baton to his son, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay sometime in year 2004 or was it 2003???? And Genting has not looked back since....
