Hi Guys, just wanna hear your opinion about this.

This happens only when the car is still cold, when you almost come to a stop, there’s one very light knock sound from the back. One time only. The rest of the time is OK. I’ve checked with AB when I change my gear oil there(mileage 47k, 2004 E46 325i) last week, they told me to monitor after oil change, but it’s still there.

According to the AB guy, he told me dat could be the gear oil hasn’t reach the optimum temperature yet. :listen: Some times when I have short drive like from some food stall back to home(2-3km at night), when I almost come to a stop, this knocking sound can be heard.(I am very sensitive to sound from car)

Again it happens only when slowly down to almost a stop(in front of house gate), not when car is accelerating. Sounds like a sound when gear drop from 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to 1st gear. Is this normal?(I guess any sound is not?)

The car is very new when I bought over from AB as premium car selection at 35kkm with 1yr warranty. After 6mths owning the car it’s 47kkm now & I just had the gear oil changed last week as a preventive maintenance. I also have my oil change every 10kkm. Next time onward thinking of every 8kkm for an oil change.

Is this the symptom of any trouble on GB?

you mentioned the sound came from the back. so, it should not be gearbox problem.

most probably it is your rear differential. have all the 3 pcs of rubber bushes checked first.

Hi Elixir, thanks! :top:
Worn out rubber will cause those sound at certain circumstances, but not all the time?
Anyway, will check it out when I go for my service.

Good to change ATF and filter on a regular basis but I think 25K is a bit too early.

Which bush jammed are you refering to? It is the hydarulic pump bushing? I had the problem of the bushing failure for the hydraulic pump which cause all the ATF to leak out.

Mine was the torque converter bush. That was what I have been told.

yeah mine also was worn out slightly. i have to change it as the slight worn sleeve also cause a slight leak when my GB aux pump was changed.

change ur gear oil for every 40,000km and go to ther nearest bmw dealer and clear the adaptation values , if can programm the gearbox to the latest software , this will safe ur gear box , my 5 series e39 , 270,000km still no problem on the gearbox system :)

also, one of the reason the e39 gearbox last longer is because it is air cooled...:top:

mana ok recond rm7000 or secondhand RM5800 gb...2001 325 ...tolong bro

recon means all the parts worn out are replaced. Good item if comes from reputable shop.

Second hand means original GB from half cut.. Depending on your luck where the GB comes from. if from Japan OK cos most japanese UDM are usually low mileage. May need to change ATF and Filter to get running as new.

Whatever you choose, just make sure got warranty if item give problem later.

Does your meter cluster show "R", "D" or "DS" or Manual when you shift the gear shift.

the meter showed same as usual.. When fwd 'D' When reverse 'R' When manual 'M'..nothing else, just the pblem when shfit to 'R' my car like neutral, RPM meter also not going up..

when does it happen? Always happen whether engine is cold or hot?

Have you by any chance change the ATF and filter recently? At what mileage did you change?

When was the last time you flush and change the coolant for your radiator?

Sorry for asking so many question.. Very hard to diagnose the problem.

Sometime the problem could due to a solenoid valve that is chocked. I can only speculate.

BTW, your RPM did not go up when in reverse after you step the accelerator?

yup...thats exactly the one they fitted to my car!

Ahhh.. that cooler is air cool instead of water cooler (heat exchanger). This is similar to
the cooler for my E36..

So maybe air cool is better than water cool.. :listen:

Just happen last Oct..This is the first time..actually in the morning all ok..when i want to go out again..can't revrse

Last time when the mechanic try to check the transmission when this problem happen..

Not yet flush the radiator..the mechanic told that the water are ok..

The solenoid already clean..nothing there..

RPM going up when in reverse position..i can see when move to R the RPM like normal..before this..when move to R the RPM going up for a second..

It's possible to bring down the GB for check it or..need to send KL..coz im in kemaman now...
