No, and if she complains I'll drop the engine oil drain plug without a bucket under the engine sump...

I seem to remember the original size was 14" for my dad's '81 E23 728i, cos i helped him wash the car back then, and i remember reading the tyre size on the sidewall, something like 195/70/14 or something.

You are right, 728i yes but 735i all came with FUCHS Metric 15.5 (390mm) wheels like my spare tyre here :

14" just doesnt look right to me, but yes it was offered from factory.

i checked the specs online and the 735i does come with 205/70/14 size...my dad's ex-728i slightly smaller at 195/70/14

If you are going for classic car status you will need some original size rim, not sure if your current rims will meet JPJ's requirement, just a thought

whoa, lucky fella, i remember it wasn't easy...My friend went 4 times to JPJ to get his Alfa Berlina classic status...

1st time - was told needed to join MSVCR, get a referral letter from them
2nd time - was told they need a copy of original brochure for them to refer to (photocopy will do or download from net)
3rd time - was told his steering wheel (aftermarket Nardi) and alloy wheels (Campagnolo) do not match as per brochure provided, duhhhh....have to prove the items are original factory accessories or else not accepted..
4th time - pinjam ori steel wheels and ori steering wheel from some other friends' Alfa Giulia and Berlina then only breezed thru inspection....

sheeeesh, M'sia boleh

bro nice classic you have there. Used to own a E28 back when i was abit younger. Dad bought for me and both maintain it well till i found my new fun then i left the car to park for 2 years. decided to sell after that .. but classic is hard to maintain. the wear and tear parts. anyway hope ur up for it and may be force be with u ehehe :)
Again, nice ride bro..

I am afraid you will find some shortcuts like this and other bogus parts as you slowly bring your Classic beauty back to a solid BMW product. Now you are done with cooling system, and you know what has been changed and when. I keep a log over all the stuff i do with the car (i have many) so i know what has been done and when. (comes in handy when it comes to oil changes in engine, gearbox, rear end etc.)

Sharizat: Classic BMW is one of the most forgiving classic to maintain, as you can get original parts over the counter from BMW for a 40-45 year old car. Try that with other makes of car, and yes it is hard. I have a 1800 from 1968-69, and i´m still buying most of what i need from BMW. It can take time as it has to be ordered from your local BMW dealer, from BMW Tradition

Yes bro agreed.. At that time i was young so at the end gave up. If given a chance ( £££ )ehehehe then i would get my hands on the e28 back again.. That where i can learn more as it does not have a lot of electronics to be scared of...true?? Rugi sold the old car ... I was in stock condition and fully rebuild exterior and interior.. Same goes to the parts and engine..

Im quiet lucky as I am an engineer by profession and I cant wait to get under the car (dont think dirty hehe) and get my hands blistered or knuckle busted by doing some DIY on the car. The ENTIRE cooling system I just overhauled cost about Rm500 in parts (total) which would have been around 2k parts + labour if done in a workshop.

Secondly, it helps that the car has been garaged since 1980...

Look for set of period-correct BMW alloy wheels bro... or BBS RS. My choice would be the open hub 16" Alpina

this alignment shop is at kampung melayu subang right ?

heard they are good...

Syed, today at 12.30pm was driving along Jalan Duta, heading towards Segambut roundabout. Saw your nice E23 but sadly the traffic police was having a chat with the driver ( I presume that was you)

That place is their favourite hunting ground especially on Sundays and public holidays. The double line from the flyover towards the roundabout is ridiculously very long and very tempting for drivers to break that double line when the traffic on the left is empty. More so if the driver intends to turn off from the roundabout to head northwards of Jalan Kuching.

I would have been a victim too but luckily I spotted them.

Finally had some free time to do up the E23.

First fixed the fuel filter mounting issue and changed the fuel hoses to the breather above, which looks like hasnt been changed since 1980...

Poured two bottles of this thingy into the differential all is good

Old fuel hoses looked like this...

cracked and leaking...

all foamy and slimy... probably hasnt been changed since 1980 either...

Glad that I decided to change the fluids today.
