Any leaks? Gasket? Oil sump? Check where you park and also hoist it up.

Dear All can engine oil be evaporated due to high temperature of the engine?
yes....

constant high temperature can 'dilute' the viscocity (like during track days), when the oil becomes thinner, then it can sip thru the o-rings and get burnt off...

However, under normal daily usage, it shudn't happen...

yup! especially if ur using fully synthetic engine oils as they tend to evaporate a lil faster and/or depending on ur engines running condition...

"fully synthetic engine oils as they tend to evaporate a lil faster "???
huh???

Are u saying that comparing both mineral and fully syn of the same viscocity ie 10W50, fully syn evaporate faster???? Shudn't the mineral oil disintegrate faster????

However, if the fully syn oil is a thinner one ie 0W30, then chances are it will 'disappear' faster than mineral oil with 10W50 viscocity... the thinner oil will sip into the combustion chamber and get combusted.... ;)

hahahaha all i know is when i travel to jb at the speed of 150km/h my engine oil will be evaporate a little bit . im using semi syn shell

I experience this on my diesel 4 x 4 as i need to add a litre of mineral engine oil after a trip to JB. I suspected this when the oil reaches 2000kms. When the oil is new its ok. Anyway I'm using those cheap mineral oils. As for my bimmer so far no problems no adding of engine oil even doing high speeds. I'm using shell fully syn for my bimmer.

No oil leaks and compression of four cyclinders ok.

I have this problem previously n was diagnosed that the valve seal leaked therefore causing the engine oil to leak into the combustion chamber n hence both loss of oil plus white smoke. After a top overhaul, it is now ok. Mechanic advised to use semi syn first and after 3000km then change back to full......  :p cost me quite a bit though.

you may want to check other areas like your plugs to see if they have some useful clues to where your engine oil has "evaporated" to....

Its a Diesel engine no plugs :D

It doesnt matter whether its synthetic or mineral, it all depends on the viscosity. That being said, an oil with a 0-40W viscosity will have a higher evaporation than say a normal rating of 15-40W or 20-50W.

Normally its good to have some oil sip through the piston rings. This actually lubricates the cyclinder better and less wear on the engine. As far as i know fully synthetic oil does not evaporate.
try Mobil 1 - 5W50 FS... It Will... :)

I have tried Syntium 10W50 and Q8 F1 10W50. With the syntium, oil evaporates a lot faster that it gets scary. 1 topped up about 2 liter before it reached the 6000km mark...

With the Q8, hardly need to top up and it's smoother too... Since then, I've been with Q8 till now.

However, I haven't tried other oils to comment further. But the point is the performance of the oils from different manufacturers varies.

i am on semi-synth, magnatec 10w50. so far no need to top up, up to 7,000kms.

mkeong, how often and how much do u need to top up everytime?

this is very much depend on the car engine condition, my experience with MB230 /124 -9 years
, after doing the top overhaul it the engine oil is ok no need to top up. All engine does eat a little oil but not as much as 1 l or 2 l. I think this is the engine problem. I have used most of the engine oil Shell, mobil, syntium, bp, caltex on japan and cont car, all are ok.

al.. main bubuh je. definitely magnatec. can't remember the viscosity.
