New Ferrari to debut in BahrainBoth drivers to race the F2005[24/03/05 - 14:52]The F2005 will be raced in Bahrain, the third round of the championship Ferrari will race its new F2005 car for the first time in Bahrain next week as the reigning world champions look to improve on a disappointing start to the Formula One season."In the next race we will have the new car on the track," said Jean Todt. "The tests we have had at Mugello this week, where our drivers took the car out for the first time, have confirmed its potential."Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher both tested the F2005 at Mugello this week and both racers said they were impressed with the new car describing it as a ‘good step forward.’"We will have two F2005, one for each driver, while the for the spare, we will use one of the F2004 M used in Australia and Malaysia," Todt confirmed. "The contrasting results of the first two races gave us a positive incentive. Along with Bridgestone, we decided to accelerate the development programme and we believe that the combination of various new elements – car and tyre – will allow us to move back on the attack after two Grand Prix on the defensive.""I have to say I am very happy with the way the team and all our partners have reacted to try and quickly return to our true level of competitiveness," Todt concluded. The Italian team have taken just 10 points from the first two races.E.A.Source AFP / Ferrari Media

Remember during pre-season testing where everyone was saying how good their machine was....looks like only Renault and Toyotya are living up to the promise :D

WHATEVER .......... FERARRI SUCKSSSZZZZZZZZ....

SORE LOSERSSSSSSS :getyourfactsright:

The F2005 is said to be 1 to 1.5 secs faster than F2004M on Mugello but realibility is quite untested. So, Ferrari is taking a big risk here. Well, I hope the F2005 proves to be unreliable, heheh!!

I seriously doubt the new F2005 will be able to match the renaults unless Bridgestone manage to come up with something special soon. And time is limited for them since only Ferrari (???) is running on it.

Another reason could also be due to the new engine ruling, the new engine seemed slow compared to the Renault, Toyota and possibly McLaren. Just look at the Sauber!! Last year, Ferrari probably had a great engine but not this year.

Come on Renault! Keep going! You will always find new fans in Malaysia (those who love supporting winners only!)!

The thing is I don't doubt that Bridgestone are working very hard to sort things out. Y'know, the blardy Japs!!

Further, what's with all this sudden allegiance for Renault??? Last week at BMW's Souled Out events, Bundy and Jason were in full Renault F1 regalia!! Doesn't it matter that Briatore is an ugly, loud, abrasive, model hogging and temperamental twit?! Support BMW Williams lah and poor Nick Heidfield who's never popular but turning out to be going all out. Didcha see the stunts he pulled on R Schumy in Sepang?! Splendid stuff!

Heidfeld has been a surprise admits Williams
Frank Williams praises his new-signing

[24/03/05 - 10:43]

Heidfeld took the honour of being the first
Williams driver on the podium in 2005

Nick Heidfeld had to battle to get his drive with BMW Williams. It all began last November when it was announced that the team would test the former Jordan racer and at the time it seemed unlikely he would race with the team as Mark Webber had already signed with the squad and Antonio Pizzonia was lining up the second seat after some good races with the team standing in for Ralf Schumacher.

Forward-wind five months and Pizzonia has had to console himself with a testing role with the team once again despite Champ Car flirtations and Nick Heidfeld has just climbed on the podium for the first time since Interlagos four years ago - In a BMW Williams.

“I must admit I was more than quite surprised at Nick’s performance in Malaysia,” Frank Williams told the team’s official website of his latest signing. “We know, as we discovered in winter testing, that Nick is very serious about his career. Hard work seems to appeal to him and our engineers find his technical interest, and feedback, hugely valuable. It has unquestionably helped him to understand his car in the past two races.”

“On Sunday, we saw a very good racing driver operating at the highest level and we are very much looking forward to seeing Nick on the podium many more times this season.”

While everything went right for Heidfeld at the hot and humid Sepang circuit on Sunday, Mark Webber’s race ended 20 laps from the end when he and Giancarlo Fisichella made contact whilst disputing the same piece of tarmac and third position. Williams believes that Webber’s time will come.

“Malaysia was obviously disappointing for Mark but we’re positive he’ll achieve a better result in the next race," Williams said. "However, he will only be able to win races when the car can win races. We’ve always believed Mark is capable of winning in the right equipment. He’s certainly very focussed, very hard working and an outstanding team player."

While the season may not have been a dream start for the Williams team, it is clear that the chemistry between team players remains good. They are in action today in Barcelona with both Heidfeld and Pizzonia on track.

Heidfeld confident - Webber fired up
Bahrain GP - BMW Williams - Preview

[24/03/05 - 17:00]

Another podium for Heidfeld ?

After a confident start to the 2005 season, the BMW WilliamsF1 Team travels to the unique desert setting of Sakhir for the Bahrain Grand Prix. The team hopes to capitalise on an intense period of development which has seen an unprecedented number of changes brought to the FW27.

With varying fortunes in the first two races of the year, the team's driver pairing of Nick Heidfeld and Mark Webber will be seeking to lead the team in a strong and consistent performance in the Middle East before the start of the European season.

After two rounds of the Championship Nick Heidfeld sits seventh in the driver standings with six points while Mark Webber is ninth with four points.

2005 will be only the second time Formula One has visited the desert state of Bahrain. The circuit lies within the city of Sakhir, located in the south of the country’s capital, Manama. The Bahrain Grand Prix will be the third time a Formula One race has been staged in an Arab country. The first time was hosted in Morocco in 1958 and was won by Stirling Moss.

Nick Heidfeld
"I feel very confident after my podium in Malaysia, so I am looking forward to the next race in Bahrain. The circuit can be very dirty as it lies in the middle of the desert, so we might see even less people going out at the beginning of the sessions than usual, in particular on the Friday. I think last year’s race in Bahrain was one of the most exciting Grand Prix of the season, so it’s likely that the fans will see another great race. Like Malaysia, Bahrain will be a hot race, and so a tough challenge for the car, especially the engine. Bahrain will be the second race in a row for my engine, as well as for some of the other drivers on the grid."

Webber expects a good race in Bahrain

Mark Webber
"After such an exciting race in Malaysia, we're expecting Bahrain to be fairly similar. We're clearly showing good progress with both Nick and myself running well in Malaysia, although it was a shame I wasn't able to finish the job. However, Bahrain is a very different circuit to Malaysia with a lot of slow corners and long straights. It produced a very good Grand Prix last year with lots of overtaking and I'm hoping we can get closer to Renault, the current pacesetters, this time round."

Sam Michael, Williams Technical Director
"Following the improved performance of the FW27 seen in Malaysia, we are looking forward to the Bahrain Grand Prix. The FW27 is getting faster, but it is still not quick enough to be competing at the front yet, but that is definitely our target. The Bahrain circuit has some long straights and slow speed corners which drive the minimum lift to drag ratio requirement upwards. Although it is still a high downforce circuit, this means that minimizing drag is important in Bahrain."

"It will therefore be interesting to see where all the teams are placed. Based on last year’s race, there are plenty of overtaking opportunities as well which should provide for an exciting Grand Prix. We will have some more aerodynamic improvements for the FW27 in Bahrain and Michelin will bring one known, and one new, tyre choice. In terms of compound hardness, we were still slightly conservative in the last Grand Prix, but Michelin are getting much closer to the optimum compound region now. Pit stop strategy is likely to be similar to that seen in the first two races. Aside from driver mistakes, once the Saturday qualifying session has been run it is quite difficult to significantly move grid position from the Sunday qualifying session as the effect of fuel load has been halved."

Mario Theissen, BMW Motorsport Director
"The Malaysian Grand Prix confirmed two things. Firstly, the competition has changed in comparison to what it was in 2004. Secondly, the enormous efforts that have been put into the development of the chassis have bared fruit. In addition, our drivers have demonstrated their impressive racing ability."

"From BMW’s perspective, Sepang was the biggest challenge we have faced since returning to Formula One. Not only because of the extreme heat in Malaysia, but also because Mark’s BMW P84/5 engine had already run the entire Australian Grand Prix two weekends before. Despite this, we did not encounter any problems with the engines. That is encouraging, but we still need to be prepared for more heat in Bahrain. Mark will have a fresh engine for the Bahrain Grand Prix while Nick will continue to run the same one he raced in Malaysia. Because of the dry desert wind, we might have to deal with very fine sand in Bahrain. In order to protect the engine’s air intake from this potential problem, we have prepared a finer air filter which features a denser weave that we will take to Bahrain. The balancing act is to provide as much protection as necessary without reducing the air flow."

yeah, yeah... lemme give you a kick on your soft backside FOC too, maybe after your birthday!!! :p

Albundy is rite, u can spend hundreds of millions on the engine & chassis but if the tyres dun perform, u r screwed!

It doesn't matter if you are racing F1 or RC - tyres are the critical factors (unless the race is on control tyres).

u can bet that the testing of the new Ferrari car also included tyre testing by jambatan batu engineers. I am sure they will come up with a new compound for the next race.

Yeah lah, my friend who attended every Sepang F1 says that there were suddenly so many Renault supporters on race day. MU/Chelsea syndrome lah...

Anyway, the Mild Seven KL Tower F1 Event SUCKED big time!!!!!!!!!!!!! Idiot DJ started spinning R&B right after Prodigy finished. Load of people started walking off (including us) and immediately returned when the music changed for the better.

In my very intoxicated state, I was so taken by this pretty ciggie girl's persuasions (In canto: "..never mind if you don't have space in your pocket left, I'll meet you outside after the event and pass them to you...I sure can remember you....") that I almost bought another 2 packs of Mild Sevens. (Un)luckily, the wife intervened.

Then it poured! Even though there was no cover, it continued until the plug was unceremoniously pulled. Mild Seven - get some proper DJs OK, R&B doesn't cut it at this sort of events.

wkwoo69, I'm still keen to start up the Club's PP contingent (Playful Party). What say you? Back to F1, I heard Daimler Chrysler booked the entire Orange at Jalan Kia Peng and entrace fee was US150 per head?!!
