Hello fellow forummers,I would appreciate it if I could get some advice from you on the servicing of my E60. Currently my vehicle is being serviced by an ex-BMW technician from Brunei who comes over to Kota Kinabalu once every few weeks to service the vehicle. But now with Auto Bavaria opening in KK in about a weeks time, I had enquired about the servicing of my vehicle. In order for me to carry out servicings at Auto Bavaria, they said I need to pay RM500 for registering my vehicle into their systems in order to keep a record. Besides that, I will have to pay 30% extra each time of what the normal service charge would be as compared to the Auto Bavaria purchased cars. Also I am using Castrol Edge Sport 5W-40 engine oil. What other Castrol engine oils are you guys using? Any recommendations? Cheers,E60MSport

you can substitute the castrol with any other premium synthetic lubricant of the same oil weight.

i have used mobil 1, torco and royal purple for my previous services, on my last service, i used petronas syntium 8000. they all perform almost similar to each other.

RM500 for registration? No such a thing la bro. I register my car in AB Glenmarie FOC. 30% extra payment for servicing also no such a thing. Who told you this? What is the name of the person? All you need to do is bring along your I/C, original registration card and a copy of the AP. I use the same engine oil. So far, I like it.

Bro.. I strongly advice that you check with AB KL HQ about this RM500 service registration fee and "30% extra charge" for non-AB sold cars. Pls also quote the person's name who informed you this thing to the AB HQ in KL.

I'm pretty sure you're being taken for a ride here, or somebody making a nice "side-income" without Auto Bavaria's knowledge or approval. So unless the AB KL HQ concurs with all the above, pls don't engage their service first. Have all the facts first, before proceeding. Otherwise might as well continue with your local workshop to service and maintain your E60.

Thanks for the feedback. Just to clarify, even if the car is a recond unit, and I wish to send it into AB for servicings, registration should be free and no 30% surcharge should be carried out?

As far as I concern, normally AB won't service re-cond car.. but maybe they have loosen up their regulations in order to make more $$$... economy bad nowadays :D but I don't understand why you have to pay the premium in order for them to service your vehicle.

There are so many BMW specialists outside... Heritage, MSpeed, M1, BM Auto... prices charged are lesser compared to AB... anyway, the ultimate decision is yours. It's just my 2 cents

he he he... sorry! didn't read the thread carefully... maybe you should ask around those who drive BMW in KK... if they have any reliable mechanic or not...

Starting this year, I've been sending my car to AB. And, starting this year also AB is accepting recond cars. Mine is a recond unit. No additional fees. Like I said, don't forget to bring your original registration card, I/C and a copy of AP. For E60, I highly recommend you to go to AB because they have the best equipment for reprogramming. Outside workshop can still do the diagnosing BUT they cannot do encoding. The result? If this happens you will keep on changing parts but wondering why the fault message is still around. Certain modules and sensors in the E60 needs to be encoded after reprogramming so that the whole system can run 100%.

Thank you once again for your replies. Funfer_fahrer, could you tell me which Auto Bavaria branch you send your car to? I'll see what I can tell the Auto Bavaria Dealership here in KK. Really weird that they need me to pay RM500 registration fee and the 30% extra.

Brother.

AB Charges RM 500 for the Vehicle Quality Inspection. Not registration.

I wrote to AB Segambut today and this is the reply.

Thanks, Erest. Thank you for the clarification. Do you roughly know what will be carried out during the vehicle quality inspection?

E60MSport,

I would not know. I am howeer interested to service with them. Lemme check them out and get back to you.

Just called them..

Spoke to Ong from AB Segambut.

He said
1. Parts are charged at normal price as local cars.
2. Labor charges are 39% more expensive than local cars. (why 39%? I also dunno)
3. To add in the PDC, rought quote is about 3-4k, but can only confirm upon vehicle inspection.

Sounds fair. hmm... thinking to drop by next Wednesday.

now it makes no sense to buy from the local dealer then since they are now giving full technical support for parallel imported cars which is way cheaper...

bravo BMW Malaysia for screwing ppl who bought ur shitty CKD cars....

The pricing for parts is still acceptable to me. With regards to adding on PDC system, does the RM 3-4K include a new bumper? Or are they quoting you just the PDC system itself?

definately without the bumper...just the PDC retrofit kit alone...if include the bumper then it is worth it and fast fast grab...:top:

adding afta market products to the e60 which already have tonnes of electronics module or any cars is really risky...the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of these afta market products is not known and they are normally tested according to the international standard test level (minimum) and not according to the car manufacturer's standard...if the products has a high level of transient emission into the car supply and if it is over the limit specified for the manufacturer's car components then you will see the electronics control module die one by one without any reason...

well in EMC phenomenon, the products does not normally malfunction straight away afta installation but afta a certain amount of time...
