hi & hope everyone is coping well with the price increases...got a problem here with my engine light which came up after a recent service...any idea what this means? wanna get some feedback b4 askin the mechanic cause he's the one who caused the light to come up and may chop me for his own fault. thx

Might be the EGR valve. Go to any reliable shop and have them hook up the OBDII scanner. It will give them the code that corresponds to the problem. Some places like Pep Boys, Autozone will do it for free if they have the scanner.

EGR valve eh....something new to me. anyway interesting article on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EGR

btw do you think this would correspond with the difficulty to start my car after refueling? takes about 5s of cranking to start then after that its normal

the exhaust gas recirculation valve is mostly found on USspec car due to the emission regulation for m54b30's ULEV rating, no pepboys or autozone branches here either:106:

as for anywhere else in the world, there is no EGR valve for euro spec cars.

my car is japan spec so could there be an EGR valve?

sorry my bad. bmw engine dont use any EGR at all. what i meant to convey above is the secondary injection that is used by bmw engines to meet the emission regulation for LEV and ULEV for the m54b30 engine. there is valve that is part of the air injection system but it does not recirculate like the EGR into the intake manifold.

the secondary air injection system is only found on US spec cars. all other euro spec cars including the jap spec models may not have it. to be sure if your car has one, just look for a black colour looking pump next to the radiator expansion tank.

attached is the image of the system. item number 1 is the secondary air pump and item number 7 is the control valve.

problem solved. ran a diagnostic to reveal fault with the 'tank vent valve' and found out that the connection was loose. problem with difficulty to start after refuel has also been solved with this. thx to leforte he could kinda figure out the prob even b4 i ran the diagnostic. my mechanic saw the message earlier but didn't know what it meant so i had to explain to him :)

bravo. leforte to the rescue again!!

bro, you should really open a tuning business on the side and start charging a fee for all the technical stuff and performance mods. want a investor??
