I totally agree. My dad's E240 has already done more than 100,000 kms over 2 years cos his factory is out of town and the car still performs like new. Robust and well-built it is. I wonder what the price differential is going to be for the facelifted E200K cos with 184 bhp, I should be able to gun down a 318i, hehehehe... < starting fire again >... :p

Dont need the 184BHP W211, the existing 165 BHP unit can pull away with its 240NM of torque :)

The car is going to cost about RM350k. Available for registration next week.

True but not entirely. Just cause the kompressor has more torque, doesn't mean it will pull away. After a certain speed hp will be a bigger factor.
So I'm guessing if you're considering the E200K, its go for motoring around town, but on highways, it might lag behind the other naturally aspirated models.

other than torque, the determining factor would be the gearing.

What do you think the resale values of the following cars would be in 5 years?

1) 2006 E200k (facelifted) RM358k new
2) 2006 E280 RM390k special price
3) 2006 E60 525i Sports package RM360k (?)

My guess :

1) RM190k
2) RM180k
3) RM160k

Residuals for the E60 is usually hit by the replacement model's introduction whilst the aspiring businessmen will still pay a slight premium for the 3 pointed star. This is my view. I wonder what the rest fo the forumers think? Purely a financial discussion. Subjective elements such driving pleasure etc shall be omitted.

How much is the E280 going for then? The thing with Merc upping the bhp stakes, BMW should follow suit imminently. Spoke to some forummers over the weekend that the new 3.0 direct injection will prime more than 280 bhp in the new E60s and E90s. When will this happen? Probably early 2008 in conjunction with facelifted E90s?

Interesting! I may just consider keeping the uncle car and sell the Brabus Cabrio instead for a E90...HMMH...Kooka?

new e60 525i going for RM398K...imo, annual depreciation rate for merc and bmw does not vary much vis-a-vis other continental makes. Your guess is probably slightly on the conservative side ltaking market value of a 5-year e39 (vs its first hand value) as an example.

Sell the brabus cabrio??? Is it yours to sell??? Will the sale cause a coup d'etat in your household???? hehehe

Sell the uncle's car, buy the new Camry and get yourself more toys!!!!

I'm also tempted to join the whacking session. It would be nice to test the cars on Pencala Link. If I'm free, I'll meet you guys there.

Yes sir! Camry here I come. Pick u up at 1130 afterwards for Klang BKT :)

I am not too sure about the Merc holding its value 5 years down the road considering the fact Daimler Chrysler has been offering huge discounts in order to maintain sales volume as the Number 1 premier luxury car in Msia.

Dude

You will have to give us a more comprehensive review than that 2 liner!

Hi WJ,

Drve the E280 before and actually booked that car........just that now they are not launching the facelifted model for the 280.......only 200............

they say only next year june the 280 facelifted might be launched........so since i already been waiting since june this year.......and in view of my financail commitment at this juncture decided to go for the 200.......

but i my say the 280 was a very nice car to drive..........(i dont gte much chance to drive high cc cars as all may cars at home are only abt 2000 cc)
