From supergripen, E46F and selespeed's view .. I think the conclusion could be that

both cars would be a real blast and fun to drive!!!! :yahoo:

Agree??

From a standstill you'll need a manual gearbox though. The auto version is about 1 sec slower to the century.
:) oh yeah!! i totally agree.. for comparison purposes only a manual wud suffice.the auto 328i will be left behind no doubt..
thinking about converting to manual for my ride.my mech says he can do it but the problem wud be finding a manual box wud be near impossible.this is my first ever auto and it stinks man!!!!

 no doubt whatsoever...

both are strong cars, no doubt.. though the gti would edge the 328 by a fraction only.. but the e46 would then walk the gti above 160kmh.. i know this from experience.. :D peace..
nah... i doubt it

the fsi should accelerate much quicker
E46 328i manual
0-100km/h 7.1 secs

Golf GTi manual
0-100km/h 6.8 secs

0.3 secs can mean "edge" to some and to others "much quicker". You can judge for yourself la.

Also:
The E46 330i SMG/Manual
0-100km/h 6.6 secs

Golf GTI DSG
0-100km/h 6.6 secs
let's take., for instance, acceleration all the way to 200, which has become, the new measurement for speed (BBC topgear i think). i still thinhk fsi would still accelerate faster to reach this speed than a 328i. anyone has this statistics? i said this because based on experience of a subaru wrx Gt i sat in with my friend doing all the way to 250 on german autobahn (1999), we left all the bimmers standing still and coulod see that they were desperately trying to catch up when we passed them at 200. however, bimmerds will eventually catchup but then the turbo is already ahead.

for one thing, the 328i is just too heavy! should get alfa to teach them how to reduce weight :D (ok ok kiddin')

i believe the 328i would be a better cruiser at higher speed than fsi!

i sat in the fsi and i dislike the interior. it looks 'cheap' and kinda plasticky!

Went to a VW dealer showroom (new showroom after uncompleted Grand Duta Hyatt) on Sultan Ismail today. There are about 10 units there, white, red, black and silver. 2 versions, manual 198k and DSG 218k. Wald tuned version add 15k, but sales reps told me it's bullshit, they don't actually do anything to the car. Go to Stuttgart for superchips better (1k +)
The interior looks ok, lots of plastic, 6 CD changer below the arm rest. 10 or more airbags, sunroof (small opening), electric driver side seats, the gear shift is weird, there are pedals on the steering, regular drive mode which can be +/-, then there is S mode. I guess that's when the pedals come to life.
2 years unlimited miles warranty (My wife will probably do 20k kms in 2 years)
Only thing I don't like is the front overhang is too long and the front dips a tad too low, might scratch on the way up my driveway.
Other than that, it's better value than a 2005 RX8!

I am going back this weekend for a test drive with wife.

:D i'm slightly luckier cuz my wife wants a Cooper S which i believe is a bit cheaper than the Golf..teeheehee

LOL! what, selespeed, u didnt like the "tartan"? goes well with my bottle of 18-yr old Glenmorangie single malt. ;)

i have a bit of a soft spot for GTIs seeing as how i owned one before, and this new Golf5 GTI definitely looks the business! maybe if they brought back the 6-pot VR6 and slapped a turbo on it, cos im done with 4-potters. :)

I managed to match my friend's 20v Turbo during our numerous elevated highway sessions in the 328i, but in a place like UY, the 328i'll smell nothing but turbocharged exhaust. In fact, it smelled fabianyee's exhaust too!
I have , seriously , played with alot of beemers on the road and I
can say from practical experience , there is no way on God's good
earth that any of your beemers (save for the M cars , of course)
is going to 'keep up' with a 20VT.

And I am saying this from the authority of my toilet seat summore.

:p

just jokin fellas. My 20vt is just too slow to keep up with your
UDMs. Really.

as for the VW , no blinking idea.

you sure you want to start talking about track-prepped cars
versus streetcars ?

if you are , then you need re-orientation.
