Manual transmission car can be more reliable than automatics. But I think the point here is the car will be more fun to drive and no power loss in the gearbox. Also less weight as the manual transmission is way lighter than the automatic. And no chance of mixing ATF with water since there is no heat exchanger.

Well a manual E46 is pretty hard to come by anyway. But a transplant can always be done later on in Penang. The GM/ZF gearbox iin E46 s prone to wear and tear failure and an overhaul doesn't necessarily rectify the issue. But yes generally manual ones is a much safer option - low maintenance plus the fun factor and minimal power loss.

Hi aidilj,

noticed u done the manual conversion last year.

what's the mileage when the auto transmission failed?
how much it cost to convert manual?

manual is always fun to drive and yes u dont have to worry on power loss and gearbox issue..

i do believe bro wingzee over looked , conversion can be done anywhere as long as u got the right guy and parts do do it..

should i get a manual converted, or get autobox and convert?

ori manual or converted is better option....since you can save some money there.
Otherwise u gotta to source/buy used manual gbox + pay convertion cost.

Great! thank you very much!

arghh getting tired of my manual already ...indeed it's just waste of $$$ doing the conversions etc etc ...

but is still an 328 auto ...can cruise and same time trash the car too

Manual
Pros: Fun, fun & fun. Great feeling when you can get a rev-match or heel & toe exactly right. Every corner becomes a new challenge whether it is at high or low speed. Can do burnouts & drift whenever you want :D
Cons: Can be tiring when sitting in a traffic jam.

Automatic
Pros: Great in traffic.
Cons: Lethargic shifts (unless it is DCT/DSG). The computer decides which gear you want, most of the time it is wrong. Mundane.
