Hi Bro...can you advice where did you do the overhaul...I have a problem with my GB since 3 month ago...still not sure where to send...afraid kena potong...got Mech quoted me 7k for overhaul.....E46 318i 2002...please advice quickly cause now driving my wife persona which used a lot of fuel...damn....

IMO rebuilding is worth done if the mech is well versed about UDM tyranny..i have seen my mech rebuilt e39, e65 gboxes etc.he normally offers a guarantee to his customers n i believe he wouldn't want recurring issues .at least i know that he uses the new BMW parts for the gb as preventive measures. some mechanics suggest the recond unit because its easier for them ..my friend used the recond gb n it failed again after 8 months...i always believe in rebuilding the gb, will cost about the same but it gives me more peace of mind..cabuutz

ya..def need some advice on this as my regular mech wont rebuilt for me while my secondary mech charge me 2k jus to change 4t gear synchromesh..cos mine is having a dif issue 4th gear wont click, it will onli engage if hand engage..will be getting the parts diret from germany

Looks like a common problem. My gear warning light will be activated and locked in 4th gear if I drive it hard (as in hard acceleration, high RPM >5k, constantly switching gears). I'm stuck to driving moderately because I was told that my gearbox is not in good condition and needs and overhaul or replace with recond unit which will set me back around RM7-9K...

If the rebuild only cost

recond GB - old GB from a working car maybe imported from out malaysia or total lost accisent car but GB still ok. contains old parts that might fail someday.

rebuild and overhaul - all parts replaced with new one. almost like a new GB that might last for 5 years more.

The rebuilt unit lasts longer too..from my experience lah

Just sent my car today to workshop. Trade in my old tranny with rebuild unit. Expected to be deliver tomorrow. Price around 4k++ quite cheap and still have 2 more rebuild tranny left....hopefully my Tranny problem will be fixed....found from the mech that the previous workshop put in a wrong ATF oil and caused the tranny to burned....

Just pickup my car today from the workshop. Total cost to fix my tranny issue at RM 5700 inclusive labor and a couple of other parts. My Tranny running smooth and no more issues. Had overhaul my engine and gearbox already....my car should be ok for another 2 ~ 3 years with regular maintenance (oil change + etc). Major service done and I need a rest from spending more money huh.... Only the mech told me he cant update my TCU to reflect to the ECU. I need to bring my car to BMW specialist to do that. They need to reprogram my TCU.

Trade-in Old GB and Change with rebuild GB = RM 4800 (Inclusive Labor and Oil)
Steering Rack Mount joint = RM 125
GB Mount = RM 125 (1 pair)
GB Oil Seal = RM 80
Rear Break pad Textar = RM 195
Wiper = RM 195 (Change because old one stolen by a dog when park outside my condo)

will update the correct amount in the maintenance section tomorrow. Just to remind you all to becareful when sending your car for fix. Find a reputable workshop. I already learned by hard...with my money....don't send your car to a small workshop in Shah Alam TTDI area....you will regret...most of the workshop there only do Japs and Malaysia car...not conti as they said....
