has anyone tried the indestructable silicone wiper blades? thinking of switching to them.also, where does one go for new wiper blades? always bought mine from AB...

I recently bought silicone wiper blades for my E34. 2 weeks ago I think.

These are blades only so you use back your original wiper assemply thingy. I had to remove the original rubber blades and just replace it with the silicone blades. So far so good. Wipes very clean but do not apply rainX on your glass or the silicone blades will skip. Just leave your windscreen bare naked.

Now the good part. I got them from Carrefour for only RM15 each and they are the same price from the shortest to 24". :)

I heard Bosch wiper blades are also good. Anybody have tried them?

Seriously guys, please do yourselves a favour and take a look at the RM15 each silicone refills at Carrefour. They're dirt cheap and if they don't work for you then just throw them away and get the expensive stuff lah.

But just look at the material used! They look like they will really last and they work brilliantly on my car too. I kid you not! :)

I got the same one from Giant for RM10.99 only.
Exactly the same.
The result is very good.

what is the brand name for the cheap silicon blade?? just a replacement of the blade?? will it be hard to do that???

This may be a stupid question but .. how to remove the existing blades? I'm so scared I might break something... please someone give some details

Crusher,

it's really really easy to remove the rubber blades. I just did mine last week and was amazed at how easy it was. Just make sure you set aside about 30mins to 1 hour to do both blades.

You just have to get over the initial fear and then once that is out of the way, it's smooth sailing right through. Also, the wiper brackets that hold the rubber strip will seem fragile, but I was mucking around with it quite roughly and it was tough as nails. I think you need a bulldozer to run over it a few times before it eventually cracks up.

Anyways, I bought the Dura Edge (refill only) from "Brother Peter" in Damansara Uptown for RM55/-. which is the cheapest price quoted yet on this forum. In fact, I am sure some weeks back the lady actually was willing to give to me for RM50/-. She claims price has gone up since. Have installed it and used it for the first time last night and it was perfect. The Dura Edge brand comes in charcoal black and color wise is much much better than the horrible "light grey" color silicone refills from Carrefoure.

One more thing, it's very very easy to remove the existing rubber blades from the bracket, but to install the Dura Edge refills require a little more effort. The original bracket have several "little hooks" to hold down the original blades. Dura Edge comes with it's own "sub-bracket" which is a little wider. So you will need to widened the clips on the original bracket using a plier.

PM me if you need further help, we can meet up and help u on your way.

Bimmerman what is the brand of the cheap silicon refills? Thanks! Penang where to buy? Tesco? Giant?

If you wanna get the original ones from Bosch or Sach, bvmauto.com has it. They have been selling these blades for some time already. You'll have to buy it from their website though.
