I tried to replace those steel rims on the E34 to that of E39 stock 16" and realised that these don't fit well. The technician told me that there is a small gap of about 0.5mm between the centre hole and the holder, and it caused the steering whell to wobble even at low speed. The solution is by placing a plastic ring that cost me RM25 each.Is this going to last or are there any other better solution?

The E39 with 18" rim and Toyo T1R belongs to my wife, I drive an E34 with stock 15" steel rim and Sumitomo Cheap Cheap all season tires.

From what I gathered, you will have to live with these plastic/metal rings! Looks like no other solution!

Wahh, wat a good husband..:top:

Asked from my mechanic b4, their said it is dangerous when the size of wheel not match..Better stay bec on the matching wheel..

Or buy ma RD ori 16" plug and play. Kinda reminds me of a few members waiting for my answers... Let me know yeah?

Ah Heng,

Use metal ring instead of plastic.., it will last you forever, i have been using them for ages, no problem one la!! boh boon tui la.., eyong liao cincia song...hehe.

wow..wifey use e39, somemore 18"rims with T1R.., what a waste..Ooops. Lu mai anei kuan la..

The e39 hub is 74mm in diamater whereas the e34's is 72.5mm. Most aftermarket rims made for 5 series (pre-e60) are made to 74mm so that it can fit both e39 (74mm) and e38 (72.5mm) so fitting the hubcentric rings are normal. It's not a problem to fit the hubcentric ring (aka cone), either plastic or metal as long as you remember to fit back when doing rotation/balancing/alignment.

Not sure about plastic rings, but I got my metal hub rings from my tyre shop for rm30/each. Now no problem at all with balancing or vibration at low or high speed. Metal ones last longer than the plastic ones if you take the wheels out frequently (for balancing, tyre rotation, etc).

So how about if i wan to use e60 rim into my e39??

Safety for me to bigger the center hole??

Or any solution?

This is really enlightening. Thank you so much. How about E60 rims on E34 or E39 like bmw7833 has asked?

pls do not trim or modify e34 & e60 rims(center hole) to fit on E39 it will cause alot of vibration on your car.... even after install center cone or etc the vibration will occurs....

this is my personal experience....

E34 & E60 hav the same center hole....

E39 is bigger center hole

Ahh? That's mean no point to me if i want to install e60 rim in my e39 even remachine the centre hole??

Maybe that's why I don't see many E39 with E60 rims. It is too much an effort to send for machining only to find out later that the rims still don't fit well.

Peck, last time u send ur e39 ori rim to refurbish, the rm300 cost included repaint work?
