Sifu's ....while driving to work this morning from Bangi to Senawang, my car is showing attached pic indicator ( squared in red)..it would be obvious when awaiting at traffic light. I suspect it is either the battery or the alternator is going to be dead anytime soon. Need the Sifu's advise on this....and I'm not sure my car would manage to go back to Bangi later evening after work...any workshop that you guys know in Senawang/Seremban area...fyi I'm from Penang and I'm new here...

Thanks Bro Pussy...I've just called him..and going to meet him up during lunch time...appreciate the help...hopefully won't cost me much...

Just came back from the workshop recommended by pussy..you are right Iceman..it is confirmed a faulty alternator...not that cheap but must change otherwise I'm not going back home...he he..the mechanic seems to know you quite well Bro Pussy...Thanks for the help...

Glad to hear you've managed to figure out the culprit before it was too late bro. Imagine the hassle if your car suddenly Kong on the way home.

Sharing my personal experience. About 2 years back, I was driving the E32 after class, drove all the way from Sunway to Sri Petaling, then halfway at the traffic lights, I felt the car make some weird twitching at idle. But I thought nothing of it, somemore no warning lights which I noticed. That time almost night, so I turned out my headlamps and continued driving, until reach another set of lights about 1KM away...

Then, suddenly, engine mati. Could restart immediately, but I felt that the cranking was weak. So I drove to the nearest bus stop and called my dad, who called AAM to help out. At first, thought it was a weak battery, and we even swapped it, but when I was making my way home, the car died again near the OKR police station.

So after 3-4 times dying, we decided to drive without the lights on. I tailed my dad, whilst the AA van tailed me from behind all the way home. Nervy experience, but eventually we made it back. *phew* Later that very night, called the mechanic to have a look and he diagnosed it as faulty alternator...

Thank goodness the problem hasn't resurfaced ever since.

Bro..I've decided to go for a new one instead of re-cond. I had some bad experience using re-cond parts before on my previos car...the new one cost me rm1600, plus labor cost is about rm1700. Not sure whether it is a reasonable price or not...maybe you guys could advise...

Battery flat..!

Happened to me just now..during heavy rain, first I felt the light getting dimmer, wiper moving slower and engine almost stalled...switched off the main light, air con & wiper, only using hazard light, managed to crawled home...in a heavy rain!! thank GOD nothing bad happen...
My question, how to know either the battery dead or the alternator faulty?...I didn't see any warning light (the typical battery symbol) light up on the instrument cluster...

Hows your car now? not so sure but it has got sth to do with the battery...check the connection to the battery also...hope it helps..good luck

Simple method to test alternator as told by Sifus..first start car ,unplugged either +ve or -ve terminal, if it dies automaticaly, then alternator kong...so confirm my alternator gone already...is it serviceable?

maybe need to install an volt meter gauge in ya dash panel ...it would show that some thing is wrong when the volt meter is below the specified voltage ...

Bro Anakin, Alternator is not recommended to be serviced...I checked with some of the mechanic...none of them is willing to repair or service it...

Yup...should always be above 13v or at least should not drop below 12v

anyone can share voltage behaviour if you've got a volt meter in car? with engine running, highest is 13.8v but what i don't like is the fluctuation... on my e34 usually 13.3 to 13.5 with the normal stereo and air-cond on. on rainy days add lights, wiper and demister sometimes drop until 12.9. turn off demister will almost always bring level back to above 13v.
