alloo bro's & sifus, need a little help here :D ok, 1st the specs of my ride:(i think some of u might be familiar with the ride already) :p - '90 e34 525i m20b25- manual (converted from auto) gearbox- 286 degree HIOP camshaft - 3.5 air flow meterTHIS HAPPENED TO ME 3 TIMES ALREADYthe situation:- after not a very long drive- no-redlined at all- temp ok (1/2 meter)- battery ok- fuel oki switched off the engine, went for a drink (10-15 min), tried to start the car again after that - nothing happens- no cranking at all..- ketuk2 the starter and alternator also cannot- check the fuse box - one fuse blown (but i think it's blown before this happens) - no. 25, aux fan i think - changed that, also cannot start. - after a while, tried to start it several times, suddenly it STARTED (after some jampi-jampi and stuff la... :D :D )- the recent tragedy happened on saturday...- MANY THANKS TO HITMAN AND MAFIA FOR THE PHONE SUPPORT.- i have yet to diagnose the problem....- SHAM diagnose it as the computer problem caused by the gearbox conversion. He suggest that i use the direct start method (somehow like shocking the cables laa). Dunno about that yet...- anyway, any forummers that have encountered this problem before?- any advises from the sifus...- no diagnostic tools here laa.... so any preliminary diagnostic? :D Leceh la if the thing happened again, it's quite hot here....thanks in advance...Regards  LipisBimmer

I am guessing your starter solenoid is weak.
Go to an electrician and tell them to run a parallel solenoid/starter relay.

bro,

if the starter solenoid is weak, there will be at least a crank or two, rite?

but, in my case, none... dunno la..

how to do the parallel solenoid/starter relay... not many Bimmer mechs here?

anyway, thanks for the reply...

Bro,

Have you check the battery fuse ?( dunno what is the real name) . it is near the absorber mounting near your battery. (not at fuse box) it is a peice of metal strip act as fuse in-between positif battery cable.
This metal strip or battery fuse easily 'putus' deu to heat or long usage, most of the time it is due to rusty. (even it is not 'putus' just change it)
This thing cost you around RM1 to RM10 depend where you buy it.

Happy checking, & welcome to the BMW world. heheheheh 1st time breakdown without reason ahhh

affan,

where is this thing located? how to check?

thanks

Dear lipisbimmer,

Have you check your "EARTHING" to your starter motor? :nyehehe: Loosely clip or worst, it is disconnected to earth make your starter motor 'kong'. That is why when you switch on nothing happen.

Pse note this is only the probability. There may others that you have to check too.

Just my small bean of advice. Cheers. :D
Tq & rgds.

check the ignition switch...

I had the same problem. turn item 3 a bit (since there's a bit of freeplay)and the engine cranks.. the plastic component in there which come in contact with the spindle is slightly worn, so when it's hot, it sort of created a bit more free space preventing the contact points from 'meeting'...

But this is just a probable cause...

ps: the picture is for a LHD car...

Lipisbimmer,

Your case is similar to mine. Until this time, I can crank but wun start. Could it be Immobilizer System? Some say it could be it. I'm not so sure ur model iis equipped with it or not. Just sharing with u. I'll get mine check tomorrow. Look out for deatils in my thread. Cheers! ;)

Had same problem on mine. Checked with so many mechanics and finally solved by adding an additional solenoid.

Speak to Nathan at M-Power ( Taman Mayang) and he is used to solving this problem and can diagnose this easily

Thanks for all the feedbacks.... :D :D

The problem didn't happened again ever since i've posted it here....

Weird huh..... but i'll keep all of the possibilities mentioned in mind...

Thanks so much guys....

Regards :D

Isn't it always the case.... one off matter. I had a problem with my ignition key yesterday. Key got jammed and I could not move the key past 1. Cannot even unlock the steering wheel. Tried a few times even after spraying WD40 and adding oil.

Disgusted, I got out, locked and unlock the door. Tried again, and voila, the ignition key works again. Damn, now another thing to worry about.

So your ride is ok olredi? May be bcoz of the "mandrom" you receive make her feel well? :D :D Keep the verses handy for future reference if she chooses to go to 'sleep' again :lazy:

haha...alas...happen to me pulak...same exact symptoms as described by lipisbimmer's first post.initially it happens once a month, then more and more frequent after every hard run and now even a trip to melaka osso kenot start after a makan stop.

added a relay and voila...fixed.starts everytime.cost - rm95/.
seems to be a common problem for old e34s and many e30s(mine included).
