nice detail write up... clap clap...

You actually do not need to change the key. You can actually transfer the original cylindrical lock to the OEM. I have done it to other locks before. In order to remove it, you have to insert the key in the lock and pull it out after you have removed all the retainer clip..

jarance ko ko!if thts the case can u do for my e30 also ah?mine manual locking for the boot lah!
actually my central locking also kaput so i cant even lock my drivers side door!

errr jarance...my ori trunk cylindrical lock for e30 came attached with the arm and cant be separated. yea for door cylindrical lock u could transfer it only as the cylinder and the arm can be separated by pushing out the lock pin. the design for the trunk lock is different. ill post the pic later.

tyke u want me to diy for u or u want to diy ??? :p

if ur central locking not functioning u need to fix that 1st. most prolly ur master actuator (the one with 5 wires) @ driver door is dead, either u change the master actuator or u buy a new set of central locking module wic come with if ur lucky 2 master actuator and 2/3 slave actuator and a central locking controller module. this set is cheap.. shud be

Since there is a sifu here, i like to ask a question about my car's central locking. I've been having this problem where the door will not unlock. When i turn the key nothing happens. This only happens occasionally. To unlock, i have to start the car then unlock from the outside (cannot even pull up the door knob) and all the doors will unlock.

I sent it for repair, took the workshop three days, they said the alarm was causing the problem and disconnected it. It worked for about 3 weeks and now the problem is back.

Should i change the lock? or is it really an electrical problem? where should i send for this problem ( I lost faith in the original workshop)

dude...
what model is ur car ?? from the info u provide i need a cracked to figureout ur powblem.. if u can start ur car y u need to get into ur car ??? :D or mebbe ur car can be started remotely, ur saying ??

anyway, assuming urs is e34. cud u lock/unlock ur doors from front passenger side or from the trunk lock ? issit working fine ?? if so i would say its the microswitch from ur driverside is almost kaput. if its the same ie u cant lock/unlock from passenger side or trunk lock, i would suggest u check ur central lock module and borrow another module from ur buddies car to confirm. no shortcut in troubleshooting electronics/electrical stuff.. u need to eliminate on variable @ a time.

cheers

Hi,
It's a E34. When this happens, I can't unlock the passenger side or the trunk either.
I have to manually unlock the passenger door by lifting the handle while turning the key (can't do this on the driver's side ,don't know why) , get in climb over to the driver seat, then start the car. Once started i can then wind down the windows and reach out and unlock the car from the outside with my key. Sometimes even this don't work, then i have to unlock the trunk and this will unlock all doors.
Weird huh? What bothers me is, let's say the electrical is not functioning, when i turn the key in the lock, shouldn't it unlock mechanically?

Bravo to Skinmeister!

well done and good write-up

wonder if i will ever have the time to post so of me modding.....

on my e34, theres 3 master centrallock actuator, driver door, front passenger door n rear trunk. it means that u could lock/unlock all the doors from any of these 3 actuators. but if u activate the deadlock features, u could only unlock the doors from the driver side actuator. the front passenger door n trunk would appear stuck and u cant even pull up the door pins to open the door (if u close the window halfway)

from ur describtion i would say that u activated ur deadlock when u lock ur car. i say its ur microswitch on ur driver side lock thats turn bad. mebbe its also a good idea not to activate the deadlock features whenever u manually lock ur car. another reason i cud think is perhaps its a good idea to swap ur central locking module (under rear seat) with the one with ur buddies and see if it solve ur problem.
