Can u discribe what's mean by smoked lamp??? It's same if we tinted our headlight?? What's diff from OEM headlight???.............

you cannot tint your headlamps unless you lve in an area where there are bright lights all the way, anyways, JPJ will stop you one day ,then you will be in alot of trouble

smoked lamps means, it looks darker, but light output is not affected, but slightly enhance due to the reflectonolgy techniques that Hella uses to concentrate the lumens into the projector lenses

smoked lamps are NLA- no longer available, was made for the post 88 models, but the older pre88 models can use, just a simple mod on the wiring split

cost differs from seller to region, in US it was going for 400 once. i.e. rm1400 or so..... , but you can find one in kl for about 800-900 or so......

i'm trial making a set for myself now, mie, will show when its done.

Dont waste your time......

i have seen many DIY lamps that fog up after awhile, and those that did shortcut didnt have good lighting.....do you think its worth going for looks that will compromise your safety and worse off other people safety? anyway its your car, your money and your life.......just dont drive when i'm around, people who like to compromise safety without regards to others should be banned from this world..........

Thanks tejay for your words of advise, duly noted.

Anyhow, i found a set of smashed smoked hella's some time back and studied how they achived the 'smoked effect'. Actually hella simply installed blacked coloured baffles in their driving lamps that makes the lamp appear black but does not affect the silver reflective surface of the lamp. Quite a smart solution while still maintaining the lamps overall performance.

As for shortcuts, i'm not sure what methods you have seen as i'm sure there are many as you are the guru and have much more experience then me. Me i've only recently got into this DIY bandwagon.

So this is my shortcut, I bought some new lens from bmwlight.com as my old ones were quite pitted and i didn't want to en-danger anyone and be banned from this world. Carefully removed the old lens with a hot air gun, removed all traces of of old sealent, resealed the new lens with high temp sealent. Filled the completed lamp with a bit of water, apply a light vacuum pressure (my factory has a vacuum box) and made sure there were no leaks in the new seal. With that i had an almost new headlight, all cleaned up, watertight and clear too. But at the end of the day, its a DIY job and as such not safe. Don't worry tejay i have not mounted these lamps yet, but now i've got to reconsider some other parts that i got that were DIY by other forumers and i'm using on my car.

The last time I saw brand new smoked Hellas was at calvintan's place, about a year plus back. Somewhere in the region of rm1.6k or something I believe.
