Damn my long shaft is giving way..

Anyone has a spare or knows where to get or can it be repaired ? mine is a m50 manual , call up a few half cuts shops there dont have it.. Car vibrating + 1st gear to shift to 2nd gear can feel and sound so loud jack my car up and noticed the coupling is loose.. my mech said must replace the whole thing.. is it true?

My 328i was using the welded auto longshaft done by the previous owner before the previous owner. right away after buying the car, there was a humming noise at speed 160km/h and it grew louder above that speed. Troubleshoot with my mech after that found out that the longshaft had been welded, despite flawless welding job it still can't match the original factory perfection. So IMHO better you tried your best to get the ori manual shaft, quite rare but my mech only managed to find out after 2 weeks! searching high n low. price not a biggie below rm500.

Oh, i've experienced this for the last month, gear 2 from 1 change at redline got vibration with loud Gegegegege sound. dunno abt yours bro but m ymech straight way discover that the said rubber coupling is the culprit, replaced it and problem solved!

Thats a really good deal , am still living with it and yeah it vibrates so loud from 1st to second gear at high speed the car vibrates but so far no sound during high speed.. Gear 3,4,5 car feels like normal no prob at all only 1st to 2nd and when u accelerate hard car car vibrates..
Im trying my best to avoid the weld stories .. As bro iceman says trying to live with it temporarily ..

If no humming sound then IMO confirm it's the longshaft rubber coupling, the black flower-like rubber pad with some holes around it, just checked my bill the price ONLY RM160 and it's only a 2 hours simple job. So if this is the case you don't need to change your longshaft.

Sekrg ramai workshop suka kencing customer so better becareful bro!

bro do what ...just hoist up ya car and try checking the rear drive shafts ...just try to put some pressure ( shaking/pulling it around ) and see if there are any free play there .... sometimes not all problems can be related to long shaft ...can even be the L / R drive shaft ...

when is your next visit here ? maybe i can let you use my long shaft and check if this is the cause before you pinned down further ...

happen to me before, mine is auto gb... got knocking sound everytime i change gear in between d "R" reverse gear.
change d rubber coupling, do balancing and it works like a charm.

thread starter is using a Manual bro ... yeh for auto that's the problem and usually the coupling is the culprit ...

hehehe.. yup know dat... but shouldn't d manual long shaft have rubber coupling as well? Sorry not sifu in manual hahaha... still waiting d right time to convert mine to manual...
