My car stalled last Saturday in heavy jam twice in a day. There was no symptom given before that, in fact the car was service and diagnose/check a week before at Ultra-tune. The 1st instance happened around 2pm during heavy jam when idling in Ampang. When I press the pedal no power car died with only one warning light appear which was the gearbox light, manage to coast to the left, off everything, press start button once, car back on continued driving as usual. Than around 5ish, at Federal highway on the right lane, when heavy jam idling on the verge of moving, same thing happen again, off everything, press start button, things back on again. Both time check Computer if there is any warning or issue but no issue whatsoever. Any ideas what could be the cause. Mine is E60 530 N53 LCI. Could this be the dreaded high pressure point/injector issue...??? Thanks Bro

I had a similar occurence just that it stalled on me 5-6 times on a 2km journey!
So bad that it cost me an arm and a leg to fix but problem persisted.

I will go and find out the bills later today and paste it here.

Based on experience, its only your CU that has gone haywire (albeit intermittent) .... I had gone thru that myself after and during a HEAVY DOWNPOUR. My car would not start after plenty of cranking. After abt 2 hours, I did managed to fire it. Did a simple (temprorary) manual reset and to-date my car has been purring without any issues ... :4: it baffles me :hmmmm2: though but after going thru a proper diagnostic @ one of our local workshop, no faults or error was noted .....:dontknow::confused:

If you guys need more info, maybe we can meet-up during one of the TT and share some info together... :top:

Cheers.

Go and check..hope u dont have problem like me..engine sludge...my car also like that when it happen...so better go to speacialist....

This method is used to reset the adaptive gearbox - put in the key, press the start button once (this turns on the ignition but not starting the car), floor the accelerator for 30 seconds or more :)

Bro, it is a nightmare to know the sludge could happen to a newer engine..in actual fact, my friend told me the same sludge problem that cost him arms, legs and underwears bro..i'm very sorry to hear this..hope our friend will not face the same issue..

Sounds like injectors issue bro. Did you talk to Howie ?

For my e60, is it just slot in the key, then press the pedal for abt 30 sec??
p/s: the engine will start if press the push start button.

Don't start the car, just put in the key, press the start button once (don't step on brakes/accelerator) and this will turn on your ignition. After that step on the accelerator for 30 seconds or more. I did that on mine and notice the gears act a bit differently, lol. I got this from another US based BMW forums and it's called "25 seconds trick" or something.

hey yoke ! same thing happened to me, driving in a very jam street and suddenly the engine light on and my car just stopped, cant even turn my steering. Did the same thing as u waited for 1 min and 'reboot' my car and everything b to normal... not even a fault message available in the system. zzz Checked by my mechanic and he said that it might be the oxygen sensor short circuit and the computer cut off the engine... is that possible? although he didnt ask me to change it and asked me to cont using it until the fault message appear in my system...zzz felt so unreliable man.... felt so helpless when others look u in the face and smile...... he did also mention that it might be the problem with the high pressure pump in the n53 engine. zzz May i know wat model is ur car? n52 or n53 engine ? another way to know it is by listening to the high pitch sound emitted by ur engine when u r not accelerating.... i mean in parking gear. It seem that all n53 engine having a unresolvable high pitch sound when is not accelerating. u can change the high pressure pump but the sound eventually will get b to u.... zzz thats suck... im like having a turbine engine in my car.... lol Btw, how u solve ur prob?

check the fault code stored in the car's egs modules. a transmission check light and stalling at slow traffic could be a stuck torque convertor lock-up clutch. this causes the engine to stall due to the drag imposed on the drivetrain. a number of reasons can cause the lock-up clutch to stay locked, most probably a sticky solenoid at the valve body, or overheating of the atf fluid. do check your atf cooler and atf level.

done any transmission related maintenance recently? the atf level could be wrongly filled.

my main suspect is the fuel pump. It is the submerged type and the wires are always soaked with petrol and can give intermittent problems.

No harm giving it a quick check and replace if necessary. It will give no warning or error messages when it is about to fail and almost suddenly.

I was driving quite manically in traffic few days back and suddenly 'transmission failure' thinghi appeared on my screen. I could still drive without issues so I did not bother and just drove home. I knew From reading this forum in the past of those who experienced it that upon restarting it would go away. I did not even bother to check the car or restart when I got home and just left it for the next day. True enough, upon restarting - no message or issues whatsoever. Decided to go to my mech nevertheless and he checked and said that it might be the valve body but not to bother and just drive 1st. He cleared my fault thinghi from the computer and since then no issues. Checked for the sake of checking that recon valve body costs rm4.5k as well. 6 months warranty... M hoping that the message does not come back but my gears and drive in per normal and smooth. That's why the boss said it may just be glitch...;)

My advice just buy brand new. Cost around rm6k.

As mentioned bro, mine is 530 LCI N53.. Haven's solve the issue yet, just continue driving as few conflicting remarks by my mechanic (albeit verbally as yet having the time to do comp diagnose with him). According to him (verbally) it could be either the N53 injector/pump or a few other things but can't be sure until diagnose. So for the time being just drive

Yeap, upon getting the car, change the ATF and service bro. But, nothing came up from the screen. If the torque converter lock-up clutch or sticky solenoid is the culprit, does it need to be change bro? And how much would it burn my pocket. My steering pump/rack still hasn't been approve for claim (still pending) as Opal instruct Ultratune to find recond/use (can you believe it!!!) and since Ultratune can't find it they have requested them to refer me to either Elegance Autoimage or Mekatronic. I might ask them to do the claims also for this torque converter/solenoid thingy.
