Can Audi A4 NA outperform E36 M43?

Anyone here owns an Audi A4 normal aspirated engine apart from a BMW?Just wanna check how's the performance of that model. Was following an A4 on NKVE this morning, I was in a hurry so was driving a little fast. At 130km/h, the A4 let me passed him but the moment I passed him, he came behind me... I was like "why lah cucuk me, I am in a hurry". When I accelerated to160km/h, he was not following me anymore, probably he was doing 140km/h then.The question is... if the A4 was to catch up with my humble M43, is it possible?Anyway, to the Mr A4 this morning (PGA xxxx - dark blue, debadged)... u have a nice car

the older A4 can move till 223km/h easily .. had one of those for a week... nice car, better ride than the e36, but loose to the handling...

I used to own one for about 3 years. Bought it second hand. Like the car very much but due to high maintenance, decided to sell it off for a brand new S40. Performance wise, it's adequate for me but I did not tekan up to 200km/h before however, I believe it can do it. But in terms of handling and balance, loose to 3 silis lor.

Here what I can share..

AUDI A4 B5

Pro
- Interior build and design (Almost like E46's standard)
- Ride quality, sound insulation and leather quality are much better then E36
- Cheaper to own then E36
- Same design as B5.5 (A4 1.8 turbo) meaning not many people will see it as 1996's model as the final B5.5 is 2003
- Some CBU unit comes with sunroof and 5 speed gearbox
- Huge Audi community in its forum

Cons
- Maintainance are 30% higher eg: MAF of B5 cost RM1800 whereas M43 only cost RM700 and engine mount also cost more then RM1500 for all as one unit is expensive
- Front wheeler, and ride balance on highspeed is not as stable as E36.
- Bad resell value
- Evergreen design, not outstanding. But E36 is unique and E46 is sexy.. E90 is more then words can say la...
- LED display on dash always burn and its expensive to replace

No la, i think from his rear view mirror, he don't know what power plant you have in your engine bay, but once he's behind you, he knew already that it is not his competitor....

A A4 B5.5 (1.8Turbo) can match the performance of 325 E36 on the highway.. so 318... he is smiling away and not to waste his time..

Oh, ok now I know why he let me through... coz I am powerless and so are those of you driving the M43 engine hehe (which is very true...no power leh...sometimes lose to kancilution and wiralution)

As the saying goes... Horsepower sells cars, but torque wins races...

the 1.8T just need a chip to boost the output to 180hp or 210hp...
and it has 1 more valve per cylinder (5 each), if I recall correctly..

Very true. Even 1.8NA quite torquey. The new B8 outshine M3 in many aspect.

every makes has it's prons and cons. most german makes are good. However, i find BMW stands out because it's one of the cars which gives the ultimate driving feeling to the owner. Also, it gives a very attachment feeling between the owner and the car.
