Hi all,My car is only 8 months old with 26,000km on it. I've noticed lately that the front driver side tyre is showing signs of balding on the outer edge. About 1cm area has got no thread anymore. I took this to BMW Service and ask them. They said it is the camber setting that might be wrong. To do alignment with them cost RM650 so I didnt do it.If I do alignment outside, how much should I set the camber? I check the camber recently at a shop it is showing 0.00 exactly on front-driver side. I think it should be slightly on negative side. Any ideas? The shop I went dont seem to have an idea how to adjust camber for bmw so I didnt want them to do it. Planning to go to MPS or Lim Tayar later..thanks

1. E90 front memang no camber setting. Dunno about F30..

2. It's normal for E90 front to slightly wear outside while the rear wear inside.

3. My E90 original RFT only lasted 30k km. Despite ngam2 hit the tread wear indicator, the 225 width front tyre suffer badly from hydroplaning, until I had to replace them.

Excessive toe-in will also cause outer wear of front tyre.

thanks Astroboy,
at least now I know mine is not the only one then.. but it's a bit strange that the driver side one is wearing off more than the passenger side.. could be all the driving around cyberjaya/putrajaya with all the "bulatan" for inter-highway connection.

did you do any alignment adjustment? how long the second set of tyres last you?

After the 30k km CSC2 RFT, I bought 2 pieces of Yoko S-Drive for my front, but found too noisy, had to switch to the rear and got myself 2 pcs of PS3 for the front.

My car now 77k km, the S-Drive too noisy to my liking, had to take them out even before hitting the tread wear indicator (TWI), clocked about 40k km and replace with 2 pieces of Nexen N8000. My front is still on PS3, about 1mm to hit the TWI.

One kawan gave me 2 pieces of Pirelli RFT with about 2mm to TWI, now sitting under my stairs above my cool marble flooring, standing by to replace my PS3.

I only do alignment after I replace tyres. Meaning only 3 alignments for the past 5 years, 3 sets of tyres.. :4:

Guys,

I have a question. I feel my 1.5 years old 320d wheel allignment is slightly out. While driving on a straight road....the car is slightly moving towards left.
nothing so obvious but i can still feel/see the difference.

Can I get BMW to reallign it under BSRI or warranty? If no, is it ok to do it outside. How much would it cost?

Please advise.

btw my tyres are still in good condition...just driven 12k km so far.

I asked quill abt alignment issue because my tyre uneven problem. They said not covered by warranty. If want to do with them have to pay rm650 for alignment.

Btw, my car also tend to go left if u let go of the steering. Went for alignment at this one shop but still got problem. So going to try MPS at sunway this wknd.

Just went to Wearnes, the balancing and allignment not covered under BSRI.

yea i spoke to someoen that i got to know thru a friend, he is a BMW SA and he advised not to do allignment in their service centres coz they do charge between 600 to 700. He said e90's are ok to do allignment in any good tyre shops.

After went to MPS Auto, I can confirm that my alignment is fixed. Cost is RM121.90. Place is nice and people there are friendly. Met with 2 other 320d owners there as well..:)

So, if anybody ever tell you that your BMW was supposed to be a little to the left, they lied.

The SC uses KDS alignment system which is highly accurate and that's a good thing. The only problem is it's recommended settings for our cars are not suitable for Malaysian road due to the different or non uniform contour or cross gradient of our road compared to European roads. Hence there's a pulling left tendency on our road.

thanks for the explanation Astroboy. It does take MPS sometime to do alignment for my 320d and also another 320d that was already there.. I saw them align, second person check, adjust, check again, do road test, adjust, second person check, adjust, check again, then only ok.. so it takes much longer than the video you showed but I'm happy to a perfect alignment after that.. :)
