Rather reluctantly, i sort of agree with BMW4eva especially on reliability. I would say BMW cars tends to be more "sensitive to breakdown" in many aspects and certain parts are not lasting. All through my combined family car experience of over 40 years of more than 10 cars, covering Datsun, Volvo, Mercedes, Camrys, and even protons, never do I need to refill petrol with quarter tank left. admittedly not a good habit, i used to refill only close to last minutes to save the trouble. (i was warned of this when i got my first BM)

Besides, never did i realise there is a fuel pump in the car over the last 3 decades, I just changed my fuel pump due to disturbing sound for my E39 last week which had been changed just two years ago. ( i just read a thread there was another BMW broke down due to fuel pump last two days) and today, the espansion tank burst ! luckily the temperature reach red zone the moment i parked into my car porch. ( The whole radiator and espansion tank just been replaced last year)

I wonder why performance cannot go along with greater reliability!!

Nevertheless, i have to admit that my passion for BMW is unperturbed. Just like i used to complain a lot about how badly managed our country is, but i still love my country very much!

Status:
1. BMW
2. Mercedes (this is no.1 if ure one of the average Malaysians who don't know anything about cars.)
3. Audi (It's really just a expensive Volkswagen with inferior technology to the VW's.This is no.1 if you're a girl. All girls love Audi's, they only love a BMW after a long time.)

Design
1. BMW (You would definitely love the shark nose BMW's, the muscular lines of the 90's and pre-Bangle BMW's, got a little hiccup during the Bangle-era, starting to look great again, ignore the new X3, if you want even better design please refer to ALFA ROMEO)
2. Audi (but this brand only looked good lately, it used to be a history teacher's cars)
3. Mercedes (Looked great once but once Bruno Sacco left, everything is screwed. The current E-Klasse looks like a Hyundai NF while the C-Klasse is a rebadged last-gen Honda City.)

Comfort
1. BMW (Just throw those stupid Run-flat tires away, if you want better please refer to Rolls Royce, which is owned by BMW or Citroen, which uses engines developed by BMW)
2. Mercedes (S-Klasse is comfy, but that's about it. C-Klasse is very uncomfortable)
3. Audi (It's Front Wheel Drive)

Reliability
1. (Lexus, as they said it's the most reliable car in the world and it wins this JD Power thing, {who is JD Power?}. However i had a Lexus and a BMW at the same time 10 years ago, the Lexus broke down 3 times and is therefore sold, the BMW never broke down, done 200000km and it's still in near perfect condition, please note it's a CBU BMW though, you might experience a very different experience with CKD BMW's) Hence, it's BMW.
2. none
3. none

.
233421. Perodua
233422. Proton
233423. Audi (stupid multitronic gearbox is crap, and they won't last longer than 6 years)
233424. Mercedes (80's and 90's Merc's always overheat, Post-Sacco Benzes all fall apart and feel flimsy due to the Chrysler effect, but I love the Hitler-era and post war Benzes and the 190E EVO's though)

adui... why u all so lidat?
all are good cars lah...
[except golf gti... and sirroco... all road bullies]

Can never change my lust for the Merc 190 Cosworth though.

yes saw one on sale....the guy who was driving (more like ruining) it didn't even know he was driving a special 190e =(

My uncle who bought a brand new Audi A6 2.4 in 2006 just had a bill of RM81k in February this year to replace his engine and gearbox despite servicing at Audi service centre exclusively. After making some serious noise the bill was reduced to RM32k (talk about haggling!). He showed me the receipt.

I think its your luck with the reliability thing.

I agree with Alpina b5 in the reliability thing.I've owned my fair share of Japanese cars, all of the top three brands (T,H&N) and they all more or less broke down as frequently as my BMWs did, so I don't completely buy this "Japanese reliability" hype(though they were considerably cheaper to fix than my BMWs).But in the eyes of Malaysians, the Japanese can do no wrong.

Ask an average Malaysian what they think of the Ford Telstar, they're answer: "Crap, high maintenance, unreliable." Ask them what they think of a Mazda 626, they're answer:"Its Japanese, easy to maintain, reliable."(Sure idiots, they're both the same car).Ask them about the Ford Ranger and Mazda Fighter, you get the same answers.

If I have the money, I will buy at least one car each from Audi, BMW & Mercedes. So status, comfort, design & reliability semua pun ada.

burn a note ask my ancestors store in special garage. maybe up there also got concours d'elegance and auction. must also remember to burn my own nurburgring.

Reliability??? not an issue for all 3 marques if car is bought new and would be relatively trouble-free for at least 3 years...

And don't compare merc's reliability from yesteryears.... Merc's reliability has fallen compared to what they used to make... Cos all major car makers are loading heavy electronics and more plastics into the cars, so in terms of reliability, all same same lah...

Adapted from 2010 Car Reliability Survey

While Porsche and Volvo models are rated average or better. But Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz are among the worst automakers overall in terms of reliability.

BMW had a bad year, with five of its 11 models scoring below average. While the BMW M3 topped the sporty cars category, the 1-, 3-, and 5-Series models with the 3.0-liter turbocharged (N54) engine had high problem rates related to the fuel system, among other gripes.

Six of Mercedes-Benz’s 13 models were below average, and the GLK SUV was far below average. However, the redesigned E350 sedan was above average, a promising start. The new E-Class coupe, a wholly different car from the E-Class sedan, languished in the bottom ranks.
