naza2- youre one lucky guy to have bike to take it to the track. Wish I had one. Its a lot safer on the track. I agree with you, the fun factor is just immeasurable. Only those who have ridden a superbike before would understand.

Although I've ridden the old GS & RT some time back; I still prefer the Japanese in-line 4 for its combination of power delivery, balance and smoothness. The Ducati 916 was one of my favourite bike when it was introduced- definitely the sexiest and an engineering marvel. The exhaust note itself set it apart from other bikes.

Hopefully one fine day I might start biking again............

vtwin,vtwin,vtwin......must i say more..

naza2, do u go up to awana sometimes? or izzit just track only....?

been wanting to get into the track, but have yet to get a full leather suit.......

fireblade.. they are a lot of affordable bikes out there if you look around. i am sure something will suit your budget. we even have a guy that runs a 150cc with almost all track mileage.

teejay... i've only gone there twice. it's truly amazing what those guys are doing. there are too many variables (potholes, oil, traffic, bicycles, bird, cow shit, etc, etc.) to risk. mostly track only. suit... if you're okay with it, some people are selling their used ones even for less than 1k.

you guys should come to the charity track day this sunday. there will be a lot of activities, both cars and bikes. almost whole day from 9 to 5pm.

naza2- alamak this sounds like racun coming. Actually been thinking about getting an old bike like the YP/RZ 250 or the RSV250. Good enough for layan corner & track.

teejay - so looking for suit; presume you already have a bike. I got the suit but no bike - what a drama.

Might check out the track day in Sepang this Sunday.

New Model!

From cannon. bmw site

Immediately after the introduction of its first superbike - the K1200 S - BMW Motorrad announced that it is to launch a new roadster based on the high performance machine. Previewed at the Munich INTERMOT show in September, the K1200 R will be available in mid 2005.

The K1200 R will feature the high performance, transverse four-cylinder in-line engine from the K1200 S and make full use of all the S model's positive characteristics, riding safety and technical innovation. The drive unit and the chassis are the same as the K1200 S, with only minor modifications. At the front, the BMW Duolever suspension rake angle is slightly steeper and the castor is slightly shorter. This gives the K1200 R outstanding handling and road holding characteristics.

For the engine, only the routing of the air intake has been changed. Maximum performance will be slightly lower than that of the K1200 S but still above 118 kW (160 bhp) making the K1200 R the most powerful naked production bike available. The torque curve is almost identical to that of the K1200 S. Gearbox spacing is also the same but the rear axle ratio is a little shorter, which will have a positive effect on acceleration.

New features include 'muscular' styling of the fuel tank and rear end, and distinctive front dual-headlamps with matt chrome colouring. A small screen covers the front section above the headlamp. In spite of its small size, the K1200 R provides the rider with surprisingly good wind and weather protection.

Compared to the K1200 S, the seat is similar in shape but slightly narrower at the front. This encourages an active, forward riding position and improves comfort for shorter riders. The steering bridge is also shaped so that the rider sits in a slightly more upright position. New designs for the speedometer and rev counter feature white dials with black figures. Special equipment, colour variants and pricing will be announced at a later date.

The GS or RT seems a right bike for KL and long distance, i'd like to balik kampung to east coast one day on that bike. it'll be fun, eh...

Nice!!! See how efficient the bikes 4 cyl engine, a 1200cc produces 160hp, at higher rpm of course, Imagine if put this engine in a proton saga body.

But for 4 cyl engine, the japs bike could be better choice, maybe? The R dual opposed cylinders maybe something that's more interesting.. R1200GS... mmm...

But look at older beemer, R80, R100...GS or RT, the older airhead the better... And Fundoro F650 a single, also interesting... the one that do Paris Dakkar rally... These oldies could last forever, and simpler tooo....

Nice one wkwoo69 - the bike really looks mean. Seems like 160bhp is the playing level of bikes these days.

nsbone- did you do the run in Sepang today? I could not make it today to watch the event.

tj - will meet up the next time; with your bike of course. Now, where is my full-face........

After the sheer driving pleasure of the 4-wheeler bimmer, am thinking of collecting the bike.

what's the beef on the R1100R, 1996? Is it reliable and easy on the pocket to maintain? Are parts still readily available? what would be a fair price for bike of this vintage?

I do a lot of travelling from Rawang to PJ via PLUS expressway 5 times a week so need a reliable workhorse.

Other recommendations (Honda/Yamaha/Kawa/Suzuki) are welcome.

welly of Batu Caves (6188 3803) and subang airport have a good selection. are they the best dealers to get big bikes from where pricing and aftersales service are concerned?
