UDM should be dropped,in my opinion, cause its really too ambitious. I dont like it but there are better machines out there. However, the new slogan,if it materialises,REALLY sucks!!

Why don't we all send a petition letter to BMW AG...this club has a strong following/constituency...it'll be good exposure for the club, internationally.

BMW is about to shelve the "Ultimate Driving Machine" slogan.

New slogan is: "A Company of Ideas"...

How gay is that?

Probably because we complained too much. "I got this problem" .."I don't want to buy BMW anymore" la.."BMW makes me sick" la..I think finally they realised that they put the not-so-appropriate tagline. Furthermore, how could it be "the ultimate" when our friend "supergripen" is laughing all the way with his subaru impreza s.t.i terrorizing all UDM owners on the the highway? He can beat the hell out of us hands down:(, unless those who drives M3s or M5s (I mean real M3s and M5s, not just fake stickers:D ) "A Company of Ideas" would sound like Merdeka Day slogan to me. I hope KL2DC is kidding..err.. nope?:(

funfer_fahrer: Hoping its some marketing stunt to draw some attention back to the UDM tagline which has been used for the last 31 years. So far its causing a lot of stir with various BMW communities. Some say it'd stick some say it won't. Whatever the outcome, it worked...we're talking about it, aren't we. Those B@stards LOL ... its a conspiracy, I tell you. Also maybe they're doing some sort of corporate wheeling and dealing back home in germany...raising capital, issuing out more stocks...I dunno. Or maybe they'l start selling PCs next year or toasters or microwave ovens...heehee the Ultimate Dinner Machine. LOL

BMW recently announced they are adopting a new philosophy in brand placement. I posted an excerpt of a recent WSJ article (in the 3 series thread somewhere)...in a nutshell, they're veering towards luxury over performance/sport. Also, new ads came out focusing on themselves as an innovative and independent company...never seen that before. So the jury is still out...

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!! This just in...

After much furor and hoo-hah by BMW communities all over the globe, it seems the story in AdvertisingAge — the bible for the advertising industry — was just plain wrong.

The new campaign is a positioning statement for the company and not meant as a slogan replacement for “The Ultimate Driving Machine.”

I think BMW cracked under pressure or someone at the ad agency goofed up big time and said the wrong thing to the press...tsk tsk tsk

Fuad4 : thanks for the effort...we can still do the petition and submit to BMW AG. We won't be the only one, I think some groups have gone ahead and emailed/mailed the appointed country rep e.g. BMW M in our case.

Wouldn't say hoax...it was a misquote/missreport on the part of Ad Age.

What a big tease...someone should apologize big time for all this. I bet someone somewhere in Munich is having a good laugh over this.

it should be " A Company of Bang-girls" *Bangles

Wah, this is the best I heard so far ... cheers kelvinp!

Well as some said, in all honesty it may not be the ultimate ... but it is still the best slogan tagline ever for BMW. It's more a people/owner/driver oriented tagline.

'Co. of ideas' is pure bull!! It doesn't measure up to the actual feelings of Bimmer owners worldwide. It more concerns the company per se of it's Bangled-up s**t of late than the 'feeling of driving' a bimmer.

Well well, hope they'll never ever change that in their worldwide re-branding exercise. Companies tend to do that quite often these days in the name of reBranding ... whatever crap that means.

However much I like the UDM tagline, I do agree that it is hardly anywhere close to being the truth!
