I just bot a520 too. The used dealer said they had serviced the cars as it evidenced in the iDRIVE. All thing in the idrive seems look ok. I just pray harder that all the info are true!

Man u scare the shit out of me when u said ' overhaul'. You dont need overhaul, just service will do . Overhaul when ur engine go kaput .

If you use fully synthetic oil from bmw or any other good brand , you should change the engine oil at 10k. keep 8-10k interval as ur routine service. Dont follow the Idrive indicator, it doesnt suit malaysian driving concept and climate.Just my 2cent.

BTW , there are some mandatory stuffs that u need to look into if you got a second hand car ; change gear box oil and filter , change microfilter if its dirty , spark plug and bla bla bla.

Again it all depends on how much u are willing to spend . Do search for the thread on this matter. It has been extensively explained . prevention is better than cure. E60 is not robust like e39... this one is like manja manja one...hapy reading and enjoy ur new car.cheers

Bro Azman ...Congrats on ur new e60 .

Never trust the salesman . They might have changed the engine oil as its accessible ( we can check the quality and condition ) , but i doubt they changed the gearbox oil - unless this salesman is really a holly one .

I got the same word , and finally to find out that the gearbox oil was not changed. I changed the engine oil again and gear box oil . This is just to make sure , our car get the best . Bring ur car to your preffred mechanic and get him to check the oil's condition . There are many oils to look into . Dont take it for granted.

Congratulation Azman & Tanks !! Shiva....520i really have to manja manja....the first day i take my car and when i ram up, starting from 100km/h it's starting to vibrate then it keeps on till over 130km/h. When i drive back to the car dealer, he told me is the tyre problem.....for sure he get a big shot from me as i told him, when i started drive car, u r still in secondary school......hahahaa

My principle is, i don't belive in sales man talk.....no offend to you guys if you are in sales line...

Hi Guys,

I wanted to relay a story - which can be right or wrong or just pure co-incidence. When I first got my E60, I had similar symptoms, Vibration at certain speeds, brought it back to the shop and with all the balancing and rotation done still had the symptom, and was told it was the tyres. Did not believe it and was also upset and angry thinking that the shop was pushing responsibilities..

However, after much negotiation, we agreed to share the cost of the new tyres and true enough, all the vibration went away - and have not returned for 3 years now..

So co-incidence or not.. you be the judge.

Hi Cafee,

I will only agree 50/50.....my experience, if the vibration cause by tyre and alighment...the vibration shall be the whole car which you can see even on the door, back mirror and etc..you just need to observe the surrounding plus in the speed over 50km above NOT specific. However for the vibration cause by gear, then this is diffrent story. If you had drove a manual car and you drive 70km/h in 5th gear, same feeling.....

Had you ever services in AB ? i have question to consult...

Congrats on new 520 owners. I'm planning to go on this path too to replace my E36. What is the going price nowadays?

Bro,

It is depends which year you are looking and the power you desire of...in the 5 series range. let say, maf yrs of 2005 is around 155K exclude insurance and etc..take this as your guide line to purchase...cheers!!

I've observed those manufactured '04 between rm135k to rm145k and those '05 between rm150k to rm158k. There are occasions a 525 going for rm150k ++ range. I would prefer the M54s which should be '03-'05. Btw, anyone seen any unreg 520i or better yet 520d ?

Do you mean this question?

If yes. Let me long phrase it. Most second hand 520 in the market, the previous owners bought from AB. But are there any car dealers selling unreg recon 520i and if any forummers & members come across such unreg recon 520i? Or an unreg recon 520d.

Btw, the 523i LCI is also a good buy, it's somewhere around the 200-220K range (another alternative to 520i and if budget allows) :)

Car vibration = headache . Getting it sorted may not be a big issue but diagnosing it is hell. Lots of influencing factor and sometimes it tends to be more than one . Take ur time to diagnose it and dont end up changing something not essential .

congrats chief on your 520i. I would like to share 1 or 2 info which have been told to me by the service personnel in bm itself. Changing oil every 10k km and increase the frequency servicing when the car started to ageing up. In my case, last time from 12k km servicing now it has dropped to 10k km service interval.

Doing the wheel alignment balancing upon servicing as in every 10k km interval also helps to keep the tayar to makan evenly thus can prolong abit before u changing to new tyres. Info from my drifter friend, tyres made from indonesia are hard and can stay for sometime. Tyres made from thailand are soft thus wore out issue on this type of tyre is there.

Just some info sharing, pls correct me if i am wrong, cheers!!! :)

Yo!, I finally resolve the issue !!, all cause by tyre....however from 16 inch i change to 18 inch come with sport rims......you all guess how much ?.....6K ++...tooth ache...Hey, anyone of you have water spot or stain....PM me...finally i find the way to resolve it.

congrat on ur new 'shoes' and able to resolve the isue. I'm sure you will enjoy ur car more.

I am also doing 10k oil change - but I am a low mileage user - so its at least 8 months for 10k km. Also I recommend getting the transmission oil flushed and changed - costly but worth the investment - car becomes a different beasts.

AS for vibrations - yes could be hell to diagnose - look for an experienced Mechanic - that'll save you a lot of time and guess work.

So far (4 years) - have changed batteries, standard oil service, transmission flush, brake pads, 2 front arms, 2 pc bushings - tires too. Car has had software updated.

I have read that flushing the AT will damage the seals inside and i m reading that more and more in overseas forum . Flushing the AT and filling it with all brand new ATF sound tempting , but the outcome from the bad side is quite scary , especially for second hand car. If your turn out to be good.. hell man .. sprint all you way . good luck
