This is my story..... I was once a proud owner of the Ultimate Driving Machine(brand new!)! Everything was fine till the third year. The window started to rattle when in motion...... the engine is leaking oil....... the steering is making noises probably because of the steering rack...... Today, the control unit for the ABS is faulty. The ABS warning sign comes on now and then. I was told that when the sign is on, the ABS is not working. I have taken care of my car as if it is my wife!! I have been vaccuming the car at least twice a week. The interior still looks good. I parked my car where no one else's car's door can hit mine...... All for what??!!! All the Sheer Driving Pleasure go down the DRAIN!!!! This car is beautiful!! It still is.... but the fact is it is not DURABLE!!! My other Nissan Sentra (year 96) is still running strong!! Only need to change engine oil and do the normal sevice but not this so-called ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE!!!I am really down..... what can I do?? I'm going to sell my car!! And I will never buy ANOTHER "ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE" ever again!!!

hmm, sounds like you are struck with misfortune my friend.....haven't heard your problem before....window rattling, ABS.....get it fixed at the authorised service centre...they should rectify it coz this is not common....unless of course your warranty is void and you service at unauthorised oulets

tyke,

Mine is a E46 year 2002. I bought it from AB. Used to service at AB as well. Till the steering rack problem. AB insisted I changed it. I went to Chu Seng, all he did was apply some lubricant..... the noise went off, but not 100% off. Ever since then.... I serviced my car there.

ah,
sorry to hear that you have such problems with your car, but welcome to the club.

Persornally, i do not find BMW as a durable car. Too bad for me my money has been poured into it to be able to change to something else.

Your ABS light problem, have a workmate that has the same problem. Something is abviously faulty within the ABS system. After the check, the pump has gone KAPUT, replacement cost RM3000+.

Now, anyone care to tell me BMW is realiable?

PERNGY: You are not alone!

Yes, sometimes its very difficult to understand yet alone accept what's expected (to fail) with our UDMs. From the window lifters failing to the ever so infamous expansion tank cracking..

I too did have my share of frustration when the DSC came on sometime last month. Several times into the workshop just to trouble shoot and $1850 poorer seemed to have done the job..........for now.
Spent just over $3k last month on stuff like these....

Now...just noticed an spots of engine oil in my driveway this morning.....
sigh........

Perngy, we feel for you....OUCH.

I actually never heard of ppl telling me the BMW is a DURABLE car. All I hear is Banyak Makan Wang, Banyak Masuk Workshop etc. etc. Buying a CKD card in Malaysia is like gambling. I am sure many CBU BMW have problems too, but such is life for many BMW owners. I say if you want to get something durable go for Toyota.

the worst thing is that i have just finished paying my installment!! my father's c class also don't have this kind of problems and that car is 6 years old. mine is only 4 years only. so many problems...... shouldn't have happened!!! another friend's toyota harrier year 2002, the only thing he does is service the car. change normal wear and tear items. that simple!!! how i wish life was that simple!!! hopefully after i change to a japanese car, life will be that simple for me. i saw the all new toyota rav4. quite chun also, don't you think?

chu seng quoted me 4K minus labour fee. so easy to make money meh??!!! i think i must find a tree that grows money!!! :)

PERNGY,

Please update your profile to show your car model and year.

Where do you stay and where do u service your car?

As for lodging complaints with BMW Malaysia, I do think that they would only look into cars serviced by Authorised BMW Service Centers.

If you want peace of mind, the best way is to go Japanese, their quality and specs are getting better every year. but alas you will not feel the "OOMP" of driving a BMW, and some other perks of owning one. They dun call them Ultimate Driving Machines for no reason.

IMO BMW are well suited for people with these criterias:

1) lots of money to spend
2) lots of backup cars
3) lots of time to spend (esp in the workshop)
4) lots of chicks to impressed

not necessarily in that order....he he.

A relative of mine bought a BMW that was fully maintained by AB. No problems what so ever. I took a drive, did a modic inspection, checked all the service history records and had my mechanic jacked up the car. New suspension, brake pads, bushes and etc since the car had just undergone an Inspection 2 service. Preventive Maintenance!!

In my honest opinion, BMW cars are durable if you do preventive maintenance. How many of us have replace thermostat, water hoses, belts, water pumps, suspension bushes, shock absorbers, brake pads, brake discs and etc etc according to the preventive schedule???

Most parts will start to fail after 4-5 years and most Malaysians will only replace the parts after it failed and not before.

Bundy, in Perngy case, his car was wholly maintained by AB as well, so most of the preventive items should have been taken care of. No?

Until Perngy had the steering rack problem, the car was serviced at AB. But after that, it was maintained by an unauthorised workshop.

:p i feel your pain too fellow udm owner...

"The window started to rattle when in motion...... "

just get some grease on all the windows, between the rubber lining on both side of the door..this will solved the noise..

wear & tear comes in after 3yrs onwards is a normal thighy..

the saying " buying is ez...but maintaining them is a joke!"

sums it all.......dude :D

So AB's diagnosis was correct?! The problem is still there despite your mechanic applying some grease to the steering rack. Mind telling which part of the steering rack he applied grease that managed to reduce the noise by 90%?

yeah, i also wanna know coz mine also vibrate with klok...klok...klok.... sound especially going throught road with alot of small holes (uneven road).

Most of the time is either the lower arm balljoints or the tie-rod ball joints. Jack up the car and check for movement.
