My dear friends and fellow E9x pilots, I wish to extend a personal invitation to you all to be part of BMW Club Malaysia as official members. Personally, I have noticed and feel a bit sad that only a handful of E9x owners are official members whilst most of you have not joined the club. I hope this invitation and any ensuing discussion will inspire you to be part of our growing community of BMW enthusiasts. The club has a very simple prime objective, which is to enhance the BMW ownership experience (and soon, to include Motorad) by building a collective of like-minded enthusiasts into a respectable motoring community, beneficial to society. From the discussions I have witnessed and participated in the E9x sections of this forum, it is very apparent to me that you all do share the same aspiration as others who have joined the club. There has been some bone of contention on the cost factor but I find it hard to understand how this can be the overwhelming determinant. Perhaps, there have been some misgivings on how some discussions were conducted in the past, for which I pray we can set this aside and I do apologise if I had offended anyone. In the heat of the moment, I admit I got a bit sensitive when someone said he can't be my friend if I "ask for his money...". If this person knew my background better, he wouldn't have hinted that I would ask him or anyone for money! Ask E46F, he is much richer than me and I have known him for 20 years, I have never borrowed a cent from him, hahahaha. Well, it was ignorance and indiscretion on both sides and I'm willing to put this to rest now that some time has passed. In the end, I never stopped being part of this group and must be given some credit for organising the Souled Out lunches and Happy Hour @ Hana which brought most of you all face to face together and the Ulu Yam drive. Admittedly, I have not been involved in organising exclusive E9x events for some time now, being quite bogged down with official club affairs as the new Secretary. Well, on a lighter note at least you can be assured of good representation in the committee should you all join the club. I can assure you that there have been many significant developments of late to enhance club membership and there are even more in the pipeline. Today, the club's membership card entitles members to discounts of up to 20% with more than 10 prominent F&B, health, fitness, lifestyle and of course, motoring establishments (concessions which were secured over the course of just 1 month plus - you don't know because these were only made known in the Members' Lounge). Just this week alone, representatives of the club will be meeting a number of multinational corporations to cement tie-ups and benefits for members (significant as they are or will be, these shall be non-pecuniary in nature. The Club is not a charity, it needs to be self-funded to maintain its independence and standing! In fact, I would consider that in the unlikely event there are unsolicited cash donations thrust upon us, it is better the donor refers to a worthy charity or we use the funds for charitable or worthwhile activities instead of subsidising membership fees - surely, you see the sense in that!). In the end, it's not entirely about what the club can do for you. If that's the case, then I made a mistake with this post, with the wrong audience, hahahaha! It is about the Club being what it is because of its members, the diversities, the communal spirit and setting the right example to society at large. The club is nothing without members banding together for a common good with lots of sharing and caring. (Sorry, if I sound like a care bear.. I'm an idealist because I do believe in ideals and its goodness!) So, do join us and help us make BMW Club Malaysia even more successful! To make things easy, all you have to do is list your nick here and our Grace Tang, Pak Yazid or Felix the Pussy will get in touch with you and make the necessary arrangements. I am available for you too if you need any clarification or wish to have a balanced view. Yes, I would like to join BMW Club Malaysia as an Official Member:-1.2.3.4.5.6.7....> P.S. To non-E9x members, please refrain from posting here. This is my personal appeal to fellow E9x pilots. I know I'm severely outnumbered but heck, I don't think these guys are gonna bludgeon a buddy. P.S.S. BlackE90, yes you may help to say something...

Interesting post JPB! :) But I have to be honest and say, a bit confusing in message. I have to say also, as an occasional forummer I don't know enough about the 'official' side of membership and I don't think I'm alone. Please take this as constructive feedback to a good guy, and you can ask for my money anytime :D

Why E90 so special one ah until must get special invite?
How about us non-E90 owners? Not classy enough ka... :p

Anyway, just my 2 kupang. I think the club has grown so much since the early years. We all drive BMWs for various reasons but one thing in common is that we love our cars. The forum is a good place to start but to put faces to nicknames and then to also do activities among like-minded individuals bring great value than the RM300 (actually RM150/year).

It is also good to just spend an extra minute or two to browse beyond just the E90 threads and see what others are doing. I don't believe in excuses but if anyone wants to know what the Club is all about, just shout out to the Committee or other Club members. Or maybe perhaps because some of the threads are only for Club members, some are not aware of what's happening.

Let's all group together and I believe the current Committee and us Club members would like to see the camaraderie grow. Cheers all.

I appreciate your feedback Schwepps and would love to respond when I'm feeling less mentally exhausted, heh. For now, I leave you with this thought, to be an official member is to belong and contribute towards building a community of enthusiast, via our extensive activities and fellowship, even in "spirit". It's your preorgative at the end of the day but if you're passionate about BMWs as all our official members are, this Club is here to enable us to do great things about it, within but more importantly, outwith the forum.

Thanks Affan, I didn't read your post until after I posted my response to Schwepps but I sure am glad we were thinking alike.

Wow, JPB this is the longest post I have read in this forum thus far. Not bad bro, you can write quite well....

I kinda agree with Schwepps, it's not really the money but in the past it was a hassle to sign up i.e. cannot download form properly etc etc and I really still can't understand what the real benefit of becoming an official member other then getting to wear the BMW club shirt and the other goodies. I have to some what disagree with affan, as I have personally asked some members about the benefits and I do read other then the E90 threads but the BIG question/answer still eludes me. I hope that I am not being offensive or disrespectful but in the world today, if you really want someone to care about something and get involved 101%, you really need to answer this core fundamental question WIIFM?

Rimsukan, welcome on board!!! We are trying to work out something with a sponsor for the track day. No promises yet, but we don't want just another normal track day. :listen::top:

Cheers bro!

Yeah, I'm somewhat with danc. After JPB's and affan66's replies, I'm still like "Huh?" I don't know about the hassles and I don't think it's all about benefits and WIIFM, but what exactly is being a member all about? What do you do?

At this point it sounds more like the Lodge: "Come join us, learn the secret handshake, go through the rituals, and then you'll get to know what it is we really do" You may think I'm being facetious but I'm just being honest that I don't know what it's all about, and like most people, have limited free time to throw, so....

Bro Rimsukan,

Well done! Congratulations on the brilliant move to join us as Official Members.

Still having the hangover from HPC ar? Me too! Let's go go-karting to let off steam. heh!

[JPB Bro, sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread...back to you...]

Thanks again Schwepps and Danc! You have asked good questions which I can answer but not the time now to pen it all down. I will do it soon. It's just my character flaw, when I write something, I feel very uneasy if it's not comprehensive enough, heh.

To Affan and Raz451, you have contributed quite encouragingly so I don't mind your post at all.

Most importantly, thanks to Rimsukan! I am very very happy you're now onboard and hope to see more of you at our official events. Do you stay in Ampang? If so, the Ampang TT is getting quite exciting and would encourage you to join them. Do check out the Members' Lounge once the processing is done!

Much has been said & "advertised" for membership recruitment especially for the E9X group.

IMHO, ALL of us UDM owners do come from all walks of life with different reasoning for joining or not. Some of us are pretty much very passionate and love to contribute to an affiliation, for sense of belonging. There are also some would just be sitting by the fence and having the "wait & see kind of attitude" to justify "Why should I join the club/association? As well as, WHAT can I benefit from joining?"

For what ever the reason(s) of not been into an affiliation is subjective and based on personal basis, that's what I believed. Be it like having "What are the benefits?, lack of time, too far away from KL, etc".. are merely just excuses.

I am sure that the advantages for joining BMWCM have been most highlighted & talk-about topic in most threads by Official members. The following are my reasons & strongly subscribe to the hierarchy of importance for joining: (I repeat; These are MY personal opinion, please take no offences)

1) Having the sense of belonging & affiliation (A HOME)
2) Passion for the roundel (The Love for BMW)
3) Common interests (Modification, accessories, etc...)
4) Personal interest (looking for life partners, doing business, etc...)
5) Discounts from various vendors (10% - 20%....)
6) getting the goodies bag (Number plate holder, Official shirt, key chain, etc...) (This is the last on my list)

IMHO, according to my understanding, that the road side Char Kwey Tiew, Roti Canai seller, Taxi drivers and other profession do belong to their respective affiliation/association. They are proud to be a member in their "House of belonging".

Message to those whom have benefited a single or some pieces of advice or information from this forum, just like me, I urge you should in-return at least to repay your dues. If there has not been this forum, we, the individual would not have gain that a piece of precious information or advice. In order for us to continue receiving or gaining information and/or advices, we, need to keep the BMWCM hosting this website. After all, less than a Ringgit a day is merely sufficient to run and pay the web masters to run this website. I strongly feel that, we, whom have benefited some form or another, need to support this organization.

Anyone wish to discuss the issues, advantages, or disadvantages of joining the club, please use another thread. As this is merely an appeal & urge to all my E9X friends to become members of this prestigious club for the brand that we love dearly.

Just my 2 cents opinion.

Boss,
Your thinking and rationale is very clear. Great post. Thanks for sharing your personal view. Respect.................:top:

I would love to join in the "Official Member" list, but I am not quite sure about the requirements to be one. As in the fees required, commitments, etc.

Care to clarify some of them, before I jot down my name to the list... :39:

(I apologize in advance if there is a post on this earlier, as I was unable to find the membership requirement post.)

I guess I'll be No. 2 on the list :D
Hope can make it in time for the Grand TT 2008!

Lets get the ball rolling....E9X guys....your support is much appreciated.
