Automatic Transmission Fluid - really 'should not change'?

I was told by Auto Bavaria service person that I should not change my E92 (2009, 65,000km) ATF.Seems that BMW Malaysia informed them of this.A change may lead to further damage. :-sThis seems counter-intuitive - surely all fluids in a car will eventually need replacement - just a matter of when?Any words of advice?Thank you.

abs ... Its because BMW thinks their stuff can last a lifetime. I vaguely remember that There was an advisory sent out by BMW Malaysia before that it is advised for a change at 80k kms.

There had been many threads discussing this over the years... Since E46 time... Do a search and read up...

I tried a search but did not seem to result in relevant posts. Perhaps my search phrases were not specific/too specific?

Appreciate any suggestions of search strings from someone who's clearly a veteran on this forum.

Search for 'ATF change'... There are a few threads nestled in the search results... not necessary on Page 1...
Some of the threads contained the phrase 'gearbox oil' instead of ATF.

Speaking of which, maybe it's time to change my ATF in the Getrag 250 manual gearbox... Yes, my manual gearbox runs with ATF too, there's a sticker explicitly specified ATF instead of regular manual transmission gear oil.

My udm gb is jatco so far the previous owner change atf every 80k/km...

What. About power steering fluid?

Make sure that they use the correct atf oil. Some cases the gb needs refurbishing due to errors during changing of the atf. Do send to reputable and experienced workshop.

I changed the ATF right after I got my used 320i. Mileage was around 76,000km after 5 years. Before change, used to have annoying jerk/thud whenever slow down to almost standstill. After change, all smooth. I also changed my old E46 325i ATF at around 80,000km as well. Bottomline, I don't think a change will hurt if it is done properly, especially if you notice your gear changes not so smooth as before.

Please change ! I changed mine at 70,000km. There is no such thing as lifetime warranty. I listened to them for my E46 and gearbox gave way at 120,000km, way below the normal life span of a gearbox.

Might not have had anything to do with it. I changed my old E46 325 ATF at 80,000km. But gearbox still gave way around 135,000km

For my 2007 E90 320i ZF box, I first change ATF at 40k km, about 4L oil will do, subsequent change was at 80k km, now waiting for 3rd scheduled at 120k km and with pan together, need around 7L of ATF if remove pan.

ZF oil per liter is about RM55.

The pan used to be almost RM400 but now price has dropped to below RM200.

Check what GB you using, if pre-LCI, only the MSport 325i on GM box, the rest all ZF box. If LCI, you most likely on GM box. GM box uses Petrol Canada Dextron VI.. (edited: Dextron 6)

AB, not all LCI is on GM. Mine is on ZF, GA6HP19Z to be exact, which uses ZF Lifeguard6.
