MOSCOW: The Russian Federal Space Agency has made an open offer to Malaysia to send a second Angkasawan to the International Space Station in late 2010 or 2011. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Malaysia had until 2009 to confirm its undertaking of a second space mission. He noted that the decision to send another Malaysian to space depended on the benefits such an endeavour would provide and the costs involved, as the next one would have to be funded by the Government. The first mission, which took Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor to space to conduct scientific experiments onboard the ISS, was funded by Russia under a partial offset deal for Malaysia’s purchase of 18 Sukhoi jets.

Whats the catch this time? Submarines? Weapons? or another batch of jets?

This time the govt must pay just like we pay for groceries when visiting Tesco. Maybe using the purchse of new helicopters to replace the Nuris as window dressing.:burnout: :burnout:

wat exactly were the direct and indirect benefits for us from the 1st space mission? what were the exact details of these science experimtents?

black, dun be so serious about the "science experiments", itu cuma cakap aje, just want to make the trip more "meaningful" beside floating our flag up there.

Please dun ask about details results of the experiments, Chinese said" Don't chase a tiger untill it have to jump over the fence lah"...hehe. But you can ask how foreign astonauts like to eat our foods at ISS..

ciao..

mauhhaha... next round go tt we order.. ."murtabak ayam tanpa graviti mamak!!"

or better

ROTI SPACE SATU MAMAK!!

it'll float to yr table...

ya...no more funding for such no beneficial ventures UNTIL gomen can be

1) transparent and accountable
2) detail the aim of the programme
3) have a beneficial aim which is achievable and useful to humanity
4) drastically reduce poverty and increase standard of living of its own Rakyat
5) choose astranauts on their own merits
6) ...

To quote our revered Prime Minister, he wants to see the other guy go up, too. Our PM said, "Looks like we have to buy another batch of planes" hint, hint.

The benefits are:

1) To the politicians : make them look good.

2) To the astronaut: he looks even better than the politician.

3) To the students: other people won't laugh at them anymore should they say someday they want to be an astronaut.

4) To the people on the street: no need to attend kimotheraphy sessions, no need to wear braces for those suffered from scoliosis and thus athritis on the spine would be a thing of the past. Unfortunately, nobody knows for sure when all these would be achieved. Investing in space exploration at this stage is like buying a vacant bungalow lot. It doesn't mean anything until someone builds a house. Of course there will be benefits, but the benefits won't be immediate. The main issue here is priority issue.

How can the gomen achive all your requests when the country is no different than the third-world African nation where:

1) Leaders want to be in power as long as possible.
2) Majority of the people are ignorant despite they are well educated.
3) There is a huge disparity between the rich and the poor.

Why yes?? Only to prove that MALAYSIA BOLEH?? WTF..!!

Here's a little story. i just got back from Japan and during one of my business sessions with some Japanese counterparts, one of them mentioned that he visited KL last week and went on about the sights he visited, KLCC, KL Tower, KLIA and he even noticed that we have/had the tallest flagpole in the world situated at 'freedom square'. ...and I went , yes, yes, yes we do (feeling a lil proud of that fact) until someone in the group asked asked:....but why?. Why do you want the tallest flagpole? it was a genuine and innocent question.......it was then, that I thought, what a silly and nonsensical answer it would have been if I stated: Malaysia Boleh!

coz the person who built the tallest flag pole has ED problems... that counters his ego...

BIG NO GO ....Wasting Money....Over Priced Sukoi's and free Space Tour....What a deal....

Buds,

Send another one to space at RM 100 million? I think the rakyat should be more worried on how we are going to survive by 2020 when the oil money has run out.

Biggest flag, tallest twin towers, first angkasawan from ASEAN, largest etc …etc….
Big deal.

Our govt is harping on the fact that we have USD 6 bilion FDI forecast this year. Big deal. Singapore was at USD 5+ billion in 1997 where we were USD 3+ before the crash. They are now forecasting USD 24 billion year 07. See how far we have lost out.

Oh and we also have

1) More land
2) More natural resources
3) More skilled workforce
4) Diamonds ( A guy I had a beer with in a bar told me this. Errr but he did look kinda drunk)

Just being a sour grape. Guess I am not one of the receipients of the lucrative contracts and I am not that well connected.

Anyhow ‘ Malaysia Boleh’

Feel like singing negara ku now
