yeah, have been hearing stories and i've seen at least 3 e36's at lots that have been burnt up. One guy in my office had his e36 convertible catch fire too.

It happened before my eyes once and heard the news twice about BMW got burnt. Here is the link of the local news from time to time:

not really tech-head - but i reckon - cars on fire -generally can be traced back to wiring - electronics issues.

i had dr friend with a 1997 Prado. Just after he fixed a MP3/4 player - drove back the car - parked it in front of his clinic in Genting Klang - monents later - some one runs in shouting the dr's car on fire. He goes out - within miniutes he Prado is completely gone.

similar episode to my friends waja in Kedah- after fitting new ICE - a week later - all of a sudden the car ignites in to a ball flame.

just my 2 cents.

Another 7 burns out

Saw an old school 7 Series along roadside at Bukit Lanjan today (March 2, 2008), just after the Sungai Buloh overhead restaurants on the way to KL.


A tow truck was getting ready to tow it away. The car was a total wreck after the spontaneous vehicular combustion, which must have happened hours ago.

Ya this car knock down a motorbike. Rider died on the sport car drag the bike for 500 meters before burst in to flame. Car no was WBS5289 E32.

Yea, I saw that in the news today too. Whats make me not happy when the news said according to those who witnessed the scene, the car try to run away after the hit but was burst in to flame after a few meters...the hit and run is something which is unaccepted, but of course we don't know the truth of the situation of the driver at that time.

Any car for that matter can catch fire, its all how you look after it as what Pussy says TLC.

This is from my personal experience, I had starting problem for a year till I found out that an important wire under my fuse box was eaten slowly and no one could trace it even computer till I top overhaul the car for no reason thinking that it was engine problem and change many electrical parts then lastly found out that the wires was eaten under the fuse box and the fuse box also eaten and luckily not on fire as I use to smell wire burn when I go under my garage that I ask my mechanic to check and replace it also the fuse box and all ok till today. We drive any car for that matter have to be alert and a little knowhow then we will be safe, keep checking all important parts of the car should be ok. I have learn a lot thru experience. take care and do learn how to check your car.
