i think the sound is quite simple to solve. u just need to add a turbo, and the sound will go away.

well taking in the car to check the exhaust this weekend ...to see if there is any leaks around the magnifold area etc etc ... and got a set of ignition coils too ..maybe get that changed too and see what happens

going turbo ...yehh i'm ready ..well need a test drive in your monsterous E34 when it's ready ...each time i call, it's always in the beauty spa ....

hehehe...the spa owner is an old man la. give him chance, he works slowly. or we can put two tyres as chairs, and go test drive. first gear boost, both of us will be in the boot. hahaha

your description sounds like 'pinking' is it a light tinkling sound? only happens when engine under load? if so, its ignition too advanced, have you checked your knock sensors? they play a vital part in keeping the ignition timing from being to advanced. pinking is the sound of your pistons rattling in the bores, its not good for engine life.
