Good article...........but the BMW will spend more time on the road and the Alfa Romeo more time in the workshop!

"BMW will spend more time on the road and the Alfa Romeo more time in the workshop" I LIKE THIS ONE :yahoo:

Really? How about the 2 E30 320i (yellow + grey) that are still in the workshops? hehehe :p

Good article, but did the GTV ever come with injection engine? WJ, when are you taking out the GTV for a run against the 2002 on Sepang or car park rally?

OS,

That's not a manufacturing but re-manufacturing problem......Hahahaahahahahahhaa :yahoo:

Look wise the Alfa is much much better IMO. And the GTV comes with twin cam engine?? (looks like it from the pic) Its kinda sad that Alfa doesnt make such cars anymore, cars with identity and BMW is also more or less the same. There hasnt been any car like the E30M3 Evo.....

i  feel  sad

Of course la the 02tii better and more powerful. If dont believe, just remember that this 2002 model is the one that really put bmw name in the touring scene that had made it becoming an iconic symbol for power.. esp the 2002turbo

but somehow, the oil crisis in 1973 really hit the auto industry hard, that the sales and production of most car manufacturers are affected.

sorry guys for being off topic a bit. :)

oi... Don't lah hijack thread like this....

A friend of mine has a GTV and seems pretty reliable.. in fact uses it as his daily driver... The car is in mint condition and looks fantastic in red... If i'm not mistake his is the 2.0litre twincam engine... goes very well....

Yep, they are twin cams. Remember the old Polis Alfa sedans? Twin cam, twin carb, wor....would have given Jimmy in his 240Z a real run for his money!

No la..Actually the car is pretty reliable safe for perhaps some fuses probably due to old wiring (cant fit too bright bulbs with these old wiring). These are very simple cars with very little electronics. In fact my Alfa has not been back to the workwhop for months for any mechanical issues. It is also a myth that the carbs need to be tuned regularly as if it is correctly tuned, it should last quite a while. Mine is driven hard daily and has no reliability problems (my E39.....u r a shame at times!!).

The Alfa GTA 1.6 used to win all the European Touring car throphies back then beating all the Lotus Continas, BMW 2002 Tiii and the Schnitzer works car. Not bad for a 1.6.

Like the article said, both cars offer a different experience. Any O2s out there? Time to exchange notes.... :)

Bundy, WKwoo69 is correct. Not only that it is twin cam, it is also an all aluminium alloy block with a host of gound breaking tech in the 60s e.g. sodium cooled valves etc. It even came with a 5th gear. The 1963 Giulia Sprint GT even came shod with 15" wheels... Imagine relative to today's, it would probably be a >20 equivalent.

Check out this magazine scan on the engine. http://www.arocsingapore.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1650

My father used to have a '73 Giulia 1.3 until the late nineties which was in immaculate condition. (Mistakenly gave it to a friend for a song, and was left in bits to rot).

Engine was indestructible. Imagine 103 bhp from 1.3 litres, and I think about 115 bhp from 1.6 litres. 5 speed gearbox. No reliability problems either.

Wirelessjunkie - replace E39 with 997 lah. Time to return to the fore! :D

103bhp from a 1.3. that's good figure especially since it's at least 30 years ago...

the Suzuki Swift GTi was the hype in the 90's with 103 bhp 1.3 DOHC, touted to be the most powerful production engine with rev cut at 8000rpm. with more tweaking here and there, can go challenge the 1.6 VTECs...

Esterix? My driving guru?, is that you? Long time no see. I am be returning soon.....LOoking at my old car again. Need to get one to start on a new job. :)

Fabs, the 1.6l GTA engine is good for about 180BHP. It came with twin spark heads (yes yes in mid 60s) and two twin choke 45mm webers........+ all aluminium body weighing only 750 kilos.
