M50 is running on timing chain.
for the wear and tear parts, both are about the same..., even the price is high, the parts can last very long......
for the maintenance, BMW cars just need to have a good engine oil change regularly and take care the water temperature......
the rest are the 'extra' cost for 'desire' to upgrade / modify....

Yeah ... the timing chain vs. belt - another factor on my "reluctant" purchase of the M20 ... sigh.

True, very true about the "desire" part - current on top of the list is Angel Eyes! :D

i still prefer the M20 for the 'rawness'. mind you, i did achieve 220km/h on that manual M20...but nvr dare hit that kind of speeds on that auto M50.

you can now get those OEM angel eyes for Rm1200 i think. i sitll prefer those wif CCFL. You may wan to PM a guy known as GTR34. He use to make some CCFL angel eyes for E34s in his free time. I've not heard from him for a long time since I'm not in KL.

Yeah ... looks yummy.

Before I bought my '89 M20, i tested the owner's '93 M50 ... surprisingly, it sucked! The M20 was in better condition, so reluctantly (and luckily), I went for the 12V old engined car.

Lance..I also bought a 525 12v auto 1989....compared with M50...well, I got sunroof! so take it as contra...:top:
