A great hello to all Sifus and Bros here, my name is Ken and I've made a short introduction in the newbies section. Nevertheless, I have decided to jump ship from the Audi wagon (pun intended, as Audis are famous for their RS4 & RS6 wagons :65:)and recently paid a deposit for a brand new (old) E46 325i original M sport. Glad to join the E46 club and hopefully I'll be able to join your TTs and be an official member soon!

Will be expecting to receive my car some time this week. I've gone through many posts and thanks to all the info, I have been able to properly identify the original M Sport models from the regular modded 325i models.

Which brings me to my-soon-to-be car: I've fallen in love with the i-6 engine and the driving characteristics, thus I pretty much decided to buy it based on my personal observations and testing. I'm ready to fork out some extra money for repairs and preventive maintenance as mentioned in all posts, however there's one very mysterious thing about the car: the door sills states that its a BMW individual car, and the title registers it is a 2.8l engine in a 325i!

I've confirmed with RealOem that it is indeed an M54 engine, manufactured 2002 in Munich Germany (Vin WBAxxxxNG64571), the AP document shows it was imported by Naza World into Msia on 2003, owned by one owner since then till now.

I've searched the net for info on M54B28 but many forums around the world say that it doesn't exist, only one or two pages like this: (http://www.bmwe23.nl/http/BMW+Engine+Numbers.htm) says that it is a real engine with additional 37nm of torque from the M54B25, and was later replaced by the B30.

Is this configuration of 325i M54B28 possible? As I've yet to get the diagnostic tool, how do I check whether its a real M54 with Double Vanos? Or could it be a M52B28 instead?

Sorry for the long post, I'm really confused with all these info, but still very excited about the car.

**The format is slightly off, but its in a proper table in the website...

    http://www.rubmw.ru/vincode/eng/

You'd have to register by navigating the russian website; don't worry it isn't too hard with Google Translate. The amount of info they request is also very minimal, but they have a 30 VIN checks per-day limit.

So for you guys out there who want to check the full spec of their beloved cars, or those planning to buy a new bmw, this is really a useful site!

The good news for me is, the car is as original as it can be, down to the BMW individual door sills...
Bad news is, the CC registered in the title is WRONG! Alamak! :hmmmm2: The previous owner paid double road tax for dunno how many XX years! This really is interesting lol.

Does anyone know how to rectify the CC error in the Geran? Maybe need to bring it to Auto Bavaria and get an official vehicle inspection?

Bro,I advised you to bring to Puspakom for official vehicle inspection to make sure that the unit is not under salvage title..

    Ken,

Based on your above information, I believe it is very likely that the previous owner has replaced the original M54B25 engine with a M52B28TU (technical upgrade with double vanos).

    Hi Herbert,

o_O I didn't know M52B28TU has double vanos, if that's the case, Hmmm it is certainly very interesting, and very possible too. However, I think the engine had not been replaced. I collected the Customs AP form yesterday and in it, states the CC as 2773. Furthermore, I did an engine transplant in my old Audi A4 and to get it JPJ endorsed, the engine has to be checked by Puspakom and JPJ will reprint the new engine no. beside and cross out the old engine number. It wasn't the case in the title; engine number was normal... And i'm pretty sure the title wasn't changed before 'cause the old road tax entries are still there.

Brought the car to Optimum last weekend, and one of the workers confirmed that the engine no. is correct. Also brought it to Auto Bavaria Glenmarie on sat..... they didn't bother to even look at my car, sigh... :62:

Manufactured in 2002 and came to Malaysia in 2003, with the Customs AP as 2773, the only possible explanation is that something happened in that 1 year before the car came to Malaysia :102: .

Am quite tempted to drive to the old owner's house and ask him directly.... the address happens to be real close to my home! :69:

wah, nice ride bro, is that yours???

Hmmm I'm think the car isn't under salvage title.... hmmmm... was at JPJ personally to transfer the name and everything went smoothly. How would a salvage title look like? Does JPJ print them on the geran??

Salvage title will have either 2 chassis number printed.1 is original number which might possible cancel by hand using underline ruler then alter with pen sometime type writer.but if the owner has change the original Geran to a new 1 u possibility couldn't view it but it will appear in JPJ computer report. If you wish to confirm,u can also seek advise from fellow used car dealer or u can check your chassis on your own. By the way the photo of the car is from a used car shop belongs to a friend. Already sold at 38k..my ride is actually silver E46 318i CKD..hehe

Finally had time to go home and check the title today...
Yup is original title from 2003, all road tax payments there, no double chassis & engine no.. phew.... Chassis number matches with VIN number on engine bay.
