very nice info doc!! figures on 528i twinscroll looks awesome :top: BMW 528i Sports: 4 Cylinder Twin Power Turbocharge Petrol Engine 245bhp, 350 Nm of torque at 1,250 - 4,800 rpm 0 - 100km in 6.1 seconds
Got a call from SA from Quill. She mentioned that there will not be a 520i 4 cylinder - only the 528i 4 cylinder is coming. Err... whats the deal?
since the engine capacity is the same but with different tuning and mapping, maybe the price difference is huge enuf to bring both models. Might as well just bring in the 528i...
Ya. Agreed with Fabian. Pricing for the 520i Twin Scroll Turbo is difficult. Most probably same with existing 523i range i.e. ~RM398k. Then again 520d still available at RM333k, so 520i hard to sell again like the 523i. People who want better performance will go for the 528i.
No offence but any model would not be so hard to sell if they price it cheaper. The cheaper the better for all.
Maybe the 520i can be priced in between the 520d and 523i, of course with better specs than the 520d. Otherwise it would not made sense as diesel engines cost more to produce. Performance wise the 520i more than matches the 523i.
Notice the 528i twin power turbo 0-100km in 6.1s is same as 535i. How come a 2L 4 cylinder engine can match the 3L 6 cylinder engine?
Indicative prices out! 'New' 520i 360K vs 'old' 523i 383K 'New' 528i 410K vs 'old' 528i 449K All 'old' models have ceased production.......no more 'old' 528i left. Very few 'old' 523i left.
520i becomes more expensive than 520d? usually its the other way around.....unless the 'new' 520d will be more than 360K? omg....
528i 0-100 time is about 6.3sec. With forced induction, engine size still matters but not as critical as NA. In this case, the 528i engine (which has a 2 liter engine like its 520i sibling that produces 184hp) is more highly tuned, and hence the performance gap narrowed down. The 535i engine in the 35iS version (same engine but highly tuned) that is available in the Z4 and 1///M couple pushes 345hp.
Wow! It's gonna be a tough call between the 520d and 520i now. Does the 520i come with integral active steering too?
Yeah in terms of performance, the 520i is closely matched with the 520d. And with some tuning the 520i could be turned into a 528
Sacriligeous! How can they do away with the 6-potter in a 5? In this case, the accountants got the better of the engineers
Pricing the 520i higher than the 520d is absurd as prices for diesel cars in UK and other countries are normally higher. I am sure than AB and other dealers are still making a profit selling the 520d, so pricing the 520i at RM30k above the 520d price is profiteering. They should pass the benefit of the lower tax regime for a 2.0 engine to the consumers. The automotive market in Msia sucks. The goverment screws you on one side with excessive tax and the dealers screw on the other side with excessive profit.
Totally agree with your view. However from a typical Malaysian car buyer's point of view, I must admit that the price of 520i is indeed very attractive. I have booked a 2012 520d, but I'm not sure now if I will switch back to the "i" side...
"Performance wise the 520i more than matches the 523i" - can please elaborate further on this statement. tq
